Golden Eagle Volleyball Hosts Tennessee State
Cheer on your Golden Eagle Volleyball team as they take on the Tigers of Tennessee State University on Friday, September 22 at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 23 at noon. Friday’s theme is Purple Wave Night followed by Hometown Heroes’ Day on Saturday where we pay special tribute to our military, first responders and medical personnel. All Tech Volleyball events are FREE admission so come out and support!

Water Center announces new interim director
Tennessee Tech’s Office of Research & Economic Development (ORED) announced the appointment of Dr. Hayden Mattingly as interim director for the university’s Center for the Management, Utilization and Protection of Water Resources (Water Center). Dr. Mattingly is currently professor and director of the School of Environmental Studies in Tech’s College of Interdisciplinary Studies. Over his more than 20 years at Tech, he has mentored and served on committees of over 80 graduate students, and his research has garnered more than $3 million in external funding.
ORED also extends its thanks to Drs. Justin Murdock, Tania Datta and Alfred Kalyanapu for their service as co-chairs of the Water Center over the last year.
The Water Center’s mission is to enhance water quality, water security and aquatic biodiversity in Tennessee, and to provide pioneering scientific information to better protect, manage, and utilize water resources from local to global scales. Dreamers and Writers: Craft Talk
The Creative Writing Club and the English Department Outreach Committee are proud to host Dreamers and Writers, an informal talk on writing in the fantasy genre, on Thursday, September 28 at 11:00 am in Henderson Hall 216A. Get ready to unleash your imagination at “Building a brighter future one BRICK at a time!” This STEM event invites kids to embark on an exciting journey of hands-on learning, where they will construct, engineer, and innovate with LEGO bricks, empowering them to shape a brighter future through creative problem-solving and STEM exploration. This event is a Safari Saturday which is for Pre-K through 3rd graders and will take place at the Oakley STEM Center on Saturday September 30, 2023, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Distress Protocol Workshop
All Academic Affairs faculty and staff are invited to join the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFÉ) and the Tennessee Tech University Counseling Center for a workshop on the student distress protocol on Tuesday, September 26th from 3-4:30 PM in RUC 101, Tech Pride Room.
The Tennessee Tech University Counseling Center is committed to providing resources to ensure that a student in crisis is responded to quickly, responsibly, and in an empathetic manner. A distressed student may also display disruptive behaviors, which may be covered by student conduct policy, and not be addressed directly by this protocol. This protocol is designed to provide guidance to the campus community. It defines how to:

Tech Talk: Study Abroad Showcase

Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Cricket Bergner and Ezekiel Vespie
This week’s Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar will be given by physics majors Cricket Bergner and Ezekiel Vespie. In their talk Decay Study of 33Mg and 35Mg for Level Scheme Development, they will describe their work this summer analyzing the nuclear decay of two isotopes of magnesium. In particular, they will describe analysis techniques they learned that enabled them to see new transitions in the decay chain of these isotopes. The seminar will be this Friday at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210 with snacks served starting at 3:30pm. These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend! For questions, contact aholley@tntech.edu

Open Water Swim Event
The Tennessee Tech Swim Club is hosting an open water swim event on Saturday, September 23 at 10:45 am at Floating Mill Park on Center Hill Lake. Triathletes, competitive swimmers or any strong swimmers interested are encouraged to join us for it. There will be lifeguards and kayakers serving as safety lookouts throughout the swim. We will have a cookout at the park after the swim for those that attend.
