Student Affairs Monthly Student Spotlight Announced
Tennessee Tech pre-dental student, Alex Stovall, admirably gives meaning to the title servant leader. When nominating Alex for this student spotlight, Mrs. Coonce says, “In Alex’s leadership positions, he is bold, fearless, confident, and kind.” Alex represents this affirmation through his position as the volunteer Hospitality Leader in the Remote Area Medical (RAM) clinic, in which he recruits and hosts medical professionals and surpasses expectations through deeply caring for every volunteer present. Alex’s passion to serve others can also be seen in his involvement with Dr. Jesse Carrick’s research of materials to clean and recycle nuclear waste. Through his research, Alex has learned that “perseverance truly is the key to success.” He encourages students, “Find something you are truly passionate about and work to advance it. The results are not immediate, but with passion comes the perseverance necessary to succeed.” Thank you, Alex, for being an inspiration on campus.

Nominations are currently being accepted for the Outstanding Clerical & Support Staff Awards and the Outstanding Professional Award. Awards are based on job performance, attitude toward University constituencies, commitment and service to the University, professional development and suggestions for program improvements. The College of Interdisciplinary Studies hopes that the funds raised through this year’s I Heart Tech Students initiative will help their college grow! The CoIS has students from all walks of life – fresh out of high school, military personnel and veterans, adult learners, professionals and non-professionals, all seeking their bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or Ph.D. Private support will allow the College to provide students with a quality education that gives them a competitive edge in today’s job market.

Join the College of Business for the spring semester’s Tech Talk series! This program features faculty/staff that have extraordinary stories or experiences to share…or maybe a unique hobby or interest. We will feature a different guest speaker each session, giving each 17 mins to present and allowing time for discussion, questions, etc.
Real connections with the TN Tech family of faculty and staff are becoming increasingly important in student persistence efforts. As you explore and engage in transformational experiences on campus, why not come see a side of us that is both engaging and potentially transformational.

The Office of Research has new email inboxes to enhance its efficiency. Please direct pre-award issues to preaward@tntech.edu, managed by Joe Driver who prepares budgets and proposals, and fields pre-award policy questions. Amy Hill remains our pre-award coordinator/submitter, editor, and communications manager. Please send agreements for review and official signature to agreements@tntech.edu, managed by Catherine Wallace, specialist for award negotiations, subawards, and non-monetary agreements. Please direct non-bookkeeping award issues to awards@tntech.edu, managed by Mark Lynam, contact on award report submission and compliance review for budget adjustments. Mark also provides support for revisions, extensions, and policy/regulatory issues along with CITI training, Visual Compliance checks, and tech transfers. The research@tntech.edu inbox will receive sponsor- and general submission portal-related correspondence. Thank you for your support during this transition!

All students planning to participate in Research and Creative Inquiry Day must complete the online abstract submission form at by 11:59 p.m., Wed., March 9, 2022. After that time, no additional abstracts will be accepted. A confirmation email will be sent to the primary author upon abstract submission. If that email is not received, the abstract has not been successfully submitted. If this occurs, the student should resubmit or contact Amy Hill (amyhill@tntech.edu) before the abstract submission deadline.

I Heart Tech Students Spotlight: College of Fine Arts
The College of Fine Arts is focused on “value-added experiences” so that students may have a rich, full fine arts experience and take advantage of the many offerings in the mid-south. Field trips will allow students to experience art, music and culture in Nashville, Atlanta, Chattanooga, Knoxville and beyond at little or no cost to the student. Many Tech students do not have access to these cities, and arts events are either cost-prohibitive or not easily accessible. Fine Arts students should have a rich experience beyond Cookeville, and field trips offered by the college provide a safe way to travel together, an experienced guide for events and tours and a safe way to return to campus.
