This fair is for anyone seeking a part-time position, while attending class this semester. Math 1710 Tutors Needed for the Math Emporium
For Fall 2022, tutors are needed to assist Math 1710 students with their assignments and test reviews in the Math Emporium, Clement 313C. The job classification for this position is student assistant 2 with a pay range of $8.25 to $12.00 per hour, commensurate with education and experience. The essential duties of this position are:
- Be on call in the Math Emporium according to your assigned schedule.
- Assist Math 1710 students with assignments, either from the textbook or on Pearson MyLab, and when reviewing for an exam.
- Record attendance/usage of the Math Emporium.
- Clean workstation/study area after each use.
Minimum qualifications are to have completed Math 1910 with at least a C or better. Preferred qualifications include prior tutoring or teaching experience, knowledge of Pearson MyLab, and/or Math credits beyond Math 1910.
Please know this position does require a close proximity to other students throughout the day.
The Math Emporium will be open from 1 pm until 6 pm Monday through Thursday and 1 pm until 3 pm on Friday.

Xavier Jackson wins 2nd place at GARD Conference
The Department of Biology is proud to announce that Xavier Jackson, a Wildlife and Fisheries Science major, won second place for his poster presentation at the Global Amphibian and Reptile Disease (GARD) Conference in Knoxville, TN. The goal of GARD 2022, according to the conference website, was “to bring together scientists from across the globe to discuss various amphibian and reptile diseases, organize facilitated discussions on…host-pathogen systems, and identify disease management strategies that can be used to ensure the conservation of herpetofauna species for generations to come.” Xavier’s presentation focused on a student-led surveillance project for the salamander-eating fungus Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans, which he and other Tennessee Tech students conducted in Fall 2021 with Aubree Hill, Ph.D. The international GARD conference was co-sponsored by the Center for the Management, Utilization and Protection of Water Resources (Water Center) at TTU, The University of Tennessee, The National Science Foundation, The U.S. Geological Survey, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, and many other organizations around the world.

Creative Inquiry Summer Experience (CISE) Showcase
The CISE Showcase is the capstone experience of Tech’s CISE program. On Tuesday, Aug. 23, and Thursday, Aug. 25, 35 undergraduate students from 13 different departments will present their findings from their summer research and creative work experiences. Please join these students and their faculty mentors in LSC 1211 from 11 AM to noon each day. The CISE Showcase and the CISE program are sponsored by Tech’s Quality Enhancement Program. Tennessee Tech Flute Choir performs at the National Flute Convention in Chicago
The Tennessee Tech Flute Choir, directed by Dr. Mary Matthews, was invited to perform at the 50th Anniversary convention of the National Flute Association this past week. The ensemble performed on Friday, August 12 at the Hilton Downtown Convention Center in Chicago, IL. Current flute studio members were joined by flute studio alumni from 2020, 2021, and 2022 to perform works by Nicole Chamberlain, Gary Schocker, Sonny Burnette, and Crawford Gates. In addition, junior Flute Performance major Lucas Schaefer was selected by audition to perform with the All-Collegiate Flute Choir at the convention on Sunday, August 14. Performers included Rachael Lawson, Calista Richlen, Joanna Humberd, Autum Winston, Mackenzie Hargis, Kent Mathis, Lily Summey, Lucas Schaefer, Callie Brooks, Lelia Mollohan, Ryleigh Templeton, Isa Yelamo-Cockcroft, Bethany Brock, and Angie Ascencio.

The ParTNers for Health Wellness Program is a voluntary wellness program available to all state and higher education employees and spouses enrolled in health coverage. The state’s prescription drug coverage provides free tobacco quit aids to members who want to stop using tobacco products.
The following quit aids are FREE under the pharmacy benefit:• Chantix and its generic, Varenicline
• Bupropion (generic Zyban)
• Over-the-counter generic nicotine replacement products, including gum, patches and lozenges
• Nicotrol oral and nasal inhalersMembers may receive up to two, 12-week courses of treatment per calendar year (up to 168 days of treatment) with no lifetime maximum.
For members to obtain over-the-counter products at no cost, a prescription from their doctor is required.

Tennessee Tech Minecraft Server
Join the Tennessee Tech Minecraft Server!
We are a group of Tech students joined under a common interest of playing Minecraft. The server IP is ttumc.tech, but the server is whitelisted so you need to join our Discord at discord.ttumc.tech
The server runs on a plugin that is coded by Tech students and the server supports both Bedrock and Java Edition cross-play. The game mode is survival multiplayer or SMP and we do not allow griefing or theft. Feel free to join the Discord or email me at jtjones49@tntech.edu to get whitelisted and play on the server with other Tech Students.

Cognitive Load Workshop
Join the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning on August 23rd at 11 AM for our next workshop on Cognitive Load. Cognitive load relates to the amount of information that working memory can hold at one time. Instruction methods should avoid overwhelming students’ mental capacities and focus more on retention practices. In this session, we will discuss memory, retrieval, and overload. Bonjour tout le monde! I hope that you all had a good summer! Do you have a passion in learning French? Do you want to enjoy the French language and culture without the stress of a class? Well then Avant-Garde is for you, and anyone is welcome to join! Our first meeting will be on August 23rd, during Dead Hour and the meeting will be held in OKLY 219.
