    Interested in Sports Analytics? Do you like playing in fantasy sports leagues? Trying to figure out who to pick in your March Madness brackets? Fascinated by sports statistics? Tuesday March 10th at 11:00 in Johnson Hall, Room 401, we will be hosting an information session for any students and faculty that are interested in starting a group for learning about sports analytics, competing in sports analytics competitions, hearing from professionals in the field, doing research in sports analytics, and many other exciting things in the world of sports! Everyone is welcome – no experience needed!

    Brass Arts Quintet presents the music of Center Stage Guest Composer Jim Self

    The Brass Arts Quintet at TTU is proud to present a concert of the music of Center Stage Guest Composer Jim Self on Wednesday, March 11 at 7:30pm in Wattenbarger Auditorium of the Bryan Fine Arts Building.

    For this evening’s performance, they are delighted to be featuring compositions by renowned Tubist and composer, Jim Self in addition to other works from the Renaissance through the Romantic era that were composed originally for brass.

    Self is an internationally known musician, having recorded approximately 2,000 movie and TV soundtracks as well as performing live in classical and popular music styles.  As a performer he is perhaps best known as the voice of the mother ship in “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” and was also the featured tuba soloist in John Williams’ score to “Home Alone.”  He has recorded 15 albums of jazz and original music for various ensembles.  His music for this concert is selected from one of Self’s latest CD releases, “Flying Circus: Music for Brass Quintet.”

    Effective Presentations Workshop!

    Being able to give an effective presentation and gaining confidence at public speaking are skills that will carry over into classes and career. Come to this Eagle Works workshop to learn best practices for pitches and presentations, and also find out what NOT to do! This session will help prepare you for the Eagle Works pitches, and help you no matter what you do in the future.

    This workshop will be Wednesday, March 11, at 5 p.m. in the iMakerspace (3rd floor of Volpe Library). After 4:30, the iMakerSpace is accessible via the North Stairwell (past the myTECH Helpdesk).

  • APO Tornado Relief Drive

    Alpha Phi Omega, co-ed service organization, is holding a donation drive for those in need after the Cookeville tornado. There are bins placed in the Roaden University Center lobby, dorms and academic buildings. Items needed include: toilet paper, diapers and baby food, water, bedding/blankets/pillows, and clothes. The drive will run until spring break, and any donation would be greatly appreciated.

    Reminder: Nominations for the 2020 Derryberry Award due March 10

    The 2020 Derryberry Award nomination deadline is Tuesday, March 10. This award was established in honor of the late Everett Derryberry after 34 years as president of Tennessee Tech. This prestigious honor grants a plaque and cash award to a graduating senior who demonstrates a high level of scholastic achievement and successful campus involvement in leadership and enrichment opportunities. Individuals who graduated in December 2019 or are scheduled to graduate in May or August 2020 are eligible for nomination.   • Four Square Competition/Fundraiser Next Month

    Four Square Competition/Fundraiser Next Month

    Do you want to raise money for the community’s homeless and play four square and compete for a prize? Then, join us next month, on Thursday April 2 from 3-5 pm at one of the Fit’s basketball courts and compete in our four square competition. The entrance fee is $5. The three top contestants will receive a $10 Chick fil-A gift card and the first-place winner will get a four square ball too. Ninety percent of funds gained from this fundraiser will go to the Cookeville Rescue Mission, which works to help our city’s homeless get back on their feet and stay on their feet.

  • EAP -Employee Assistance Program

    Our hearts are with those affected by the devastating storms and tornadoes. We want you to know there are resources to help through EAP for all full-time benefited employees who are eligible for the insurance plan.  Plan members can receive five counseling sessions at no cost.  Optum also offers referral services such as financial assistance services, legal consultation services, help applying for disaster relief and temporary housing assistance, recommendations for home repair contractors, transportation assistance, assistance understanding how to replace important documents, and more.

    Education Fair is Tuesday, Mar. 10 in Memorial Gym

    Join us for the Education Fair, co-sponsored by the Center for Career Development and the College of Education on Tuesday, Mar. 10, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. in the Memorial Gym. Bring your resume and be prepared to discuss your career interests with employers. All majors are invited to participate to learn about career opportunities with school systems.

    Students should come dressed to impress, bring plenty of resumes, and have their Eagle Card on hand to obtain a personalized name tag. This event counts toward Career Readiness Certification.

    Career Fairs are a NO BACKPACK Zone. Please leave your backpack in your car or room.

    Open to ALL students, ALL majors – freshman to alumni.

    Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Dr. Emily Martin, Smithsonian Institution

    Dr. Emily Martin from the Center for Earth and Planetary Studies at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum will be visiting this week to describe her work producing a detailed, digital geologic map of Triton’s geologically active surface. Dr. Martin will discuss how this work ties into our understanding of the solar system’s formation as well as describe the challenges involved in making planetary geologic maps. The talk, Mapping Triton, will be this Friday, March 6th, at 3pm in Foundation Hall 238, with refreshments served at 2:30pm. Scott Christen, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Communication Studies, will be sharing how best to make a successful presentation.
