Associate Provost for Online Education Interview: Open Sessions
The Associate Provost for Online Education and Faculty Development search committee would like to invite you to attend a meeting with the two chosen candidates. We will be hosting them on Monday June 13, and Wednesday June 15. The meetings will be held in the Provost’s Conference room (Derryberry 200) from 2:30 – 3:30pm. This sessions will be open to Faculty, staff and students. Each candidate’s information will be available for your review on the Provost’s website on June 10th, along with a survey. Office of Sponsored Programs announces progress in growing its team
The Office of Sponsored Programs announces progress in growing its team to enhance our support in the pursuit of external funding. New/revised positions include a post-award team manager, director of research compliance, director of sponsored programs, post-award specialists and a contract compliance specialist. These roles will be the basis of our new, expanded infrastructure to help grow the university’s research portfolio. As candidates are identified and interviewed, they will be able to meet with faculty and staff to provide input. If you know qualified candidates, please ask them to apply. Thank you for your assistance as we assessed the campus’s needs and built solutions to provide the foundation for further growth. Critical Thinking
Join the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning on Tuesday, June 7th at 11 AM for the first session in on summer workshop series on implementing 21st Century Skills into your courses. This session will discuss the importance of critical thinking and how it prepares students for a lifetime of self-directed learning. We will discuss ways of implementing critical thinking activities in your curriculum, fostering metacognition, in-context learning, and inductive and deductive reasoning. Budget Office – June Training
Budget Office training sessions for June are now scheduled if anyone is interested! Below is a brief description of each training:
General Budget Training: This training helps provide a better understanding of the overall budgeting process and timelines from the university level. Other topics presented include information regarding budget revisions, revenues and expenses, budget monitoring, general guidelines, etc. This training is required for signature authority on budget revisions.
Budget Banner Screen Training: This training focuses specifically on Banner screens frequently used for budgeting purposes. This is an optional training course.
Budget Shadow System Training: This training focuses specifically on our Shadow System Template that can be used for reconciliation purposes. This is an optional training course.
Position Control Budget Training: This training focuses specifically on topics related to position control including new position set ups, personnel action forms, budget revisions for permanent positions, how to verify permanent position funding, lapsed salary, etc. This is an optional training course.

Learn more about plants with “Roots Camp” – for rising 8th graders and up
ROOTS Camp: Uncovering Your Botanical History & Exploring Natural History Collections
For rising 8th graders and up. Explore your family history, plants, and herbaria collections through this fun camp! We will work with TTU faculty members and Hollister Herbarium staff to identify and preserve plant specimens that are important to our own personal histories. Asynchronous Online Best Practices (Replay)

Based on the Tech-Direct course modality, one of our Instructional Designers,Taylor Chesson, presents how to implement asynchronous best practices including release conditions, chunking information, and active participation in an online course. Date Change for Awning Installation at Volpe Library’s Rear Entrances
Due to inclement weather expected Thursday, May 26th, awning installation at the Volpe Library has been postponed until May 31 through June 1, 2022. Volpe Library’s two rear entrances will not be accessible May 31 through June 1, due to awnings being installed. For library access please use the front entrance. “Design, Build, Admire” Woodworking Workshop taught by Wyatt Severs
Discuss the characteristics of wood, then jump into design and create full-scale drawings. Cover machines used for dimensioning and shaping of rough lumber into finely crafted furniture, including using the router for fine details. Discover the structural aspects of joinery with focus on floating mortise-and- tenons. Finishes will be covered.

Registration is now open for our Annual Onsite Wellness Screening on Wednesday, September 21, 2022
The ParTNers for Health Wellness Program is a voluntary wellness program available to all state and higher education employees and spouses enrolled in health coverage. Each participant will be able to earn up to $500/year ($250/year for the eligible member and $250/year for eligible spouses). If you want to earn the cash incentive for completing a biometric screening you can attend our onsite screening.

The Office of Research is Moving…?
As TTU moves closer to centralization and expansion of Research Administration and Compliance services, The Office of Research staff will be shuffling workspaces. Our various rooms are being renovated and subdivided in order to make way for additional staff. The space in Derryberry Hall Room 128 will be tackled first. During this next week, our computers, phones, and working papers may not always be together in the same space at the same time. Email is the most reliable way to reach us during this transition. Joe Driver, Jill DeBord, and Mark Lyman have moved to DH 155 temporarily. Mary Kathryn Karafonda will relocate to DH 326. Amy Hill remains in her space in Southwest Hall for the time being. Thanks so much for your patience during this time.

Student Chapter of ACS Among Top 10 in the World
Tennessee Tech’s Chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is among the top 10 in the world! In just one year, this group held a total of 80 events – 19 service events, 15 professional development events and 46 chapter development events. This is even more incredible because it happened during the pandemic! In addition to inclusion in the top 10 student chapters, Tennessee Tech’s group earned both the Outstanding and Green Chemistry Awards.
ACS students completed science activities with the campus and community, assisted in the Chemistry Olympiad, hosted speakers, presented research and wrote grants to support activities and conference travel. In addition, students collaborated with the Nashville local section of ACS and hosted a virtual speaker whose topic was Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Respect in Chemistry which earned the Tennessee Tech Student Chapter a 2021 ChemLuminary award in Fostering Interactions between Local Sections and Student Chapters from ACS.
