Title IX-Pregnant and Parenting Students
Title IX prohibits colleges and universities from discriminating on the basis of pregnancy, childbirth, or related conditions. As a result, pregnant students are entitled to reasonable accommodations and adjustments such as appropriate restroom breaks, accessible seating, and excused absences deemed medically necessary by a physician.

Tennessee Tech Students Present Solar Eclipse Images
Four Tennessee Tech students, Evelyn Brachey, Mackenzie Henley, Lily Ledford, and Aaron Livesay took part in a Special Topics course on Imaging the Total Solar Eclipse this semester. Over the spring semester, they learned solar imaging and telescope techniques, and planned their images in preparation for the eclipse on April 8. They traveled to Bloomington, Indiana, in the path of totality with physics faculty Steve Robinson and Mary Kidd, where they set up their equipment as part of the Solar Eclipse Workshop hosted by Indiana University, Bloomington. They will be presenting their final images and speaking about their process on Tuesday, April 30 at 4:00 pm in BRUN 228.

CITL: TechTrendsetters Grant Opportunity!
The CITL TechTrendsetters Grant application is now open! This grant boosts faculty proficiency in integrating emerging tech and digital literacy into curricula. It aims to elevate educational practices, preparing students for a digital-first world. Recipients get OLC’s Online Teaching Certificate, individualized support, tech assistance, and extra salary support. Apply now for the upcoming cycle starting June 10th on the CITL website.

Chemists Celebrate Earth Day Water Bottle Give Away- April 26
The Student Members of the American Chemical Society will be giving away 24 oz Nalgene water bottles on Thursday, April 25 beginning at 11 a.m. in the LSC atrium by Einstein’s to celebrate Chemists Celebrate Earth Week. The goal is to promote sustainable practices through green chemistry principles and to reduce waste. There are 100 water bottles and they are first come first served. Water bottles cannot be held for anyone and are only one per person. This event is funded by SGA SOLO and open to all students. Questions can be sent to smacsttu@gmail.com.

Liezl Laurel receives Kurt Eisen Excellence in Liberal Arts Award
Liezl Laurel, a junior pursuing a double major in Foreign Languages (Spanish) and Computer Science, is the recipient of the 2024 Kurt Eisen Excellence in Liberal Arts Award. This is the highest student award given by the Tennessee Tech College of Arts and Sciences. Ms. Laurel is recognized for her excellence in three vital functions of a liberally educated person: (1) critical thinking; (2) context-consciousness; and (3) communication.

Tech Softball will be hosting SIUE in conference play the weekend of Saturday April 27 and Sunday April 28. Sounds of Science Honors Colloquium Recital- April 26
You’re invited to join the Sounds of Science Honors Colloquium class for their recital on Friday, April 26 at 2:30 p.m. in BFA 374. The idea of this colloquium is that music accesses other areas of the brain that can be used to construct deeper understanding. Throughout the semester students in the course used music theory to demonstrate fundamental chemical concepts. During the recital each student will present a piece they composed that auditorily demonstrates a concept in chemistry or in their major. Refreshments will be provided.
