“I Heart Tech Students Spotlight”: Tennessee Tech’s Food Pantry
Tech’s Food Pantry ensures students will not have to worry about affording their next meal. Thanks to generous support from the Golden Eagle community in previous “I Heart Tech Students” initiatives, the Food Pantry expanded their hours and purchased a refrigerator to provide healthy options for students facing food insecurity. Additional support will allow the Food Pantry to offer 30 items per client visit, keep the most popular items in stock, and stock additional fresh items in the refrigerator and freezer. When you eat well, you do well.
Any gift of any amount to any area made online at 1915.tntech.edu between Feb. 14 and Mar. 28 counts in the “I Heart Tech Students” total. You can choose to make a gift to Tech’s Food Pantry or to any area on campus that is meaningful to you. Visit 1915.tntech.edu to learn more.

Debate Showcase on Feb. 22nd!
We will be hosting the first TTU Speech & Debate Showcase on February 22nd at 5pm in the RUC Tech Pride Room. The topic we will be debating is “Should NCAA D1 athletes be paid?” Come watch some of our award-winning debaters as they provide a show of logic and entertainment. This is meant for all students and does not require you to be interested in joining the team. There will be free dinner provided, but feel free to bring your own food and watch the show!

Delight TTU Galentine’s Day Event

The College of Education Career Fair is Tuesday, Mar. 1
Join the Center for Career Development and the College of Education for the College of Education Career Fair on Tuesday, Mar. 1, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Memorial Gym. ALL majors and ALL students (freshman to alumni) are invited to learn about career opportunities with school systems.
Students should make sure to bring plenty of copies of their resumes and be prepared to discuss their career interests with employers.
Students should come dressed to impress and have their Eagle Card on hand to obtain a personalized name tag. This event counts toward Gold and Purple Career Readiness Certification!
Career Fairs are a NO BACKPACK ZONE. Please leave your backpack in your car or room.

Purple Career Readiness Workshop on Feb. 17: Top Ten Resume Tips
Join the Center for Career Development on Thursday, Feb. 17, beginning at 11 a.m. in the Roaden University Center Multipurpose Room (2nd floor) for this Purple Career Readiness Workshop. Are you curious about how to create a top-tier resume? If so, be sure to attend this workshop where a staff member from the Center for Career Development will share with you the top ten tricks on how to construct that one-of-a-kind resume!
This event is open to all students in all majors and counts towards the Purple Career Readiness Certificate for junior and senior students. Bring your Eagle Card for a quick sign-in.

University Development announces Brandon Boyd as new Director of Development
University Development is pleased to announce that Brandon Boyd that will assume the role of Director of Development effective March 1. Brandon will oversee all fundraising efforts for the College of Agriculture & Human Ecology, College of Engineering and the Diversity Initiative.
Brandon is a 2007 business management graduate of Tennessee Tech and started his career at Tech in 2007 as well. In his first role as the Assistant Director of Annual Programs, Brandon managed all annual solicitation programs including the phonathon call center. In 2014, Brandon moved into a Director of Development role and served fundraising needs for the College of Agriculture & Human Ecology and the Whitson-Hester School of Nursing. In 2016, Brandon was appointed director of Planned Giving. Most recently, Brandon served as the Director of the Crawford Alumni Center and Executive Director of the Tennessee Tech Alumni Association.

STEM Fab Friday events are focused on getting families and their children engaged in STEM activities. There are two regularly scheduled events each semester held on Fridays from 5-8 pm. We look forward to having families enjoy time together while exploring new STEM concepts through hands-on activities.
A parent or guardian is expected to attend with the student(s). Students may not be left unattended.Masks are encouraged but not required as per Tennessee Tech University Policy.

Tornado Drill Scheduled Feb. 21, 2021
Tennessee Tech University will conduct a tornado drill Monday February 21, 2022 at 3 p.m. barring inclement weather. The drill is an important exercise that allows the TN Tech community to test its readiness in the case of emergency conditions.
Once the tornado “warning” message is received, ALL members of the campus community should quickly and safely evacuate to the designated areas within each respective building and wait for the “All Clear” to be issued. Once the all clear has been declared you may resume normal operations.
Although this is a drill, participation is a must! Building Coordinators will be evaluating and reporting student, faculty and staff response.

The Eagle Assistance Grant would not exist without the “I Heart Tech Students” fundraising initiative and without Tennessee Tech faculty and staff. In 2019, Tech employees came together to establish and fund this emergency grant, which is awarded to students facing sudden, urgent or unforeseen circumstances that would impact their ability to stay enrolled. No one could have predicted the March 2020 tornado or COVID-19. Thanks to your generosity, the Eagle Assistance Grant was in place, ready to help.

TN Tech Counseling Center: Questions Persuade Refer
Aiming to provide effective skills to educate students/ faculty on suicide prevention, the Counseling Center will be hosting the Question, Persuade, & Refer event! The training will take place on February 17th and March 24th in the Tech pride room, as well as on April 14th in the Multi-purpose room (located in the Roaden University Center). The Harold Love Outstanding Community Service Award – Nominations
Now accepting recommendations for the THEC Harold Love Outstanding Community Service Award. The President’s Office would like to nominate up to two faculty/staff members and up to two students for consideration of this state-wide award for community service.
Historically, TN Tech has been well represented as recipients of this award, within both categories, faculty/staff and students. Your recommendations will be evaluated by a committee on campus. The final nominees will be informed of their submission.
