REGISTRATION IS OPEN: Elinor Ross CDF Freedom School / FREE Program for Kids
Registration is open for the Elinor Ross CDF Freedom School – a free, six-week (June 9-July 20) literacy and cultural enrichment program for children K-4th/entering 1st-5th grades who qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Hosted by the College of Education, kids will engage in reading/literacy programs, science, art, math, and music activities, interactive field trips, and family/community events. Breakfast and lunch are provided each day. This year each child will also receive a bike and safety gear.
Members of the university community are encouraged to learn about this valuable program or register a child.

Hot Water Outage May 9-22
There will be no hot water or steam on campus May 9-22, 2021 during the annual steam system outage. Natural gas and electric water heaters will continue to operate at Tech Village, New Hall North, Southwest Hall, RUC (for food service only), Lab Science Commons, East Stadium, West Stadium, APC, Foundation Hall, Hooper Eblen and Fitness Center.
This outage is necessary to perform preventative maintenance, and is scheduled annually following spring commencement to minimize impact on other campus events.

Community Spotlight: Treehouse Publishing Group in Jamestown, TN
Rural Reimagined recognizes Treehouse Publishing Group, a successful rural Tennessee business in Jamestown, for their work creating children’s books to assist and help fundraise created this program with her daughter when the Covid-19 pandemic first struck. AJ says, “I wanted to give back to the nonprofit organizations that do so much for our communities, animals and the planet.” AJ Wanegar, the founder of Treehouse Publishing Group, created this nonprofit with her daughter when the Covid-19 pandemic first struck. AJ, a long-time freelance illustrator, has overcome a history of trauma and injury and recognizes the role nonprofits played in her success.

TTU Miracle Raised $26,346 for Children’s Miracle Network
On Saturday, April 17, 2021, the TTU Miracle organization raised $26,346.21 for the Monroe Carnell, Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. Three years ago, the organization committed to raising $100,000 for the hospital and they have now successfully completed this goal. There will officially be a “TTU Miracle Patient Room” on the cancer floor of the hospital. The Greek Life community on campus played a big part in the events and donations this year. Rachel Kurtsinger, President of TTU Miracle, describes how special the Dance Marathon event was this year. It was the first in-person big event Miracle has gotten to host since Homecoming 2018, so it was a great chance to reconnect Tech’s campus back to this cause. Rachel states, “Tech truly showed out this year and we are so very proud to lead them in this fight to change kids’ health- change their future. We can’t wait until next year! All For The Kids.”

Budget Office – May Training Sessions
Budget Office training sessions for May have been scheduled if anyone is interested! Below is a brief description of each training:
General Budget Training: This training gives a big picture overview of the university budget, Banner screens, and budget revisions. This training is required for signature authority on budget revisions.
Budget Banner Screen Training: This training focuses specifically on the Banner screens frequently used for budgeting purposes.
Budget Shadow System Training: This training focuses specifically on our Shadow System Template.

The Bookstore has a new order submission site, AIP (Adoption & Insight Portal). It can be found on your Tech Express. It is the a green box with a book icon and says “BN AIP”. COB Career Ready Advocate Awards – Winners Announced
The Professional Readiness and Leadership Center in the College of Business wishes to recognize this year’s winners of the Career Ready Advocate Award. This award is given to the faculty, staff, and campus community members who have had an impact in the development of young professionals.
The faculty award for 2021 goes to Leigh Waggoner of the Accounting Department. Also of the Accounting Department, Cindy Gates has won the staff award. As for the campus community, Erin Bullington from the Center for Career Development is recognized.

Of the Rockies: Kristin Ferraro Senior Thesis Exhibition
Senior Thesis Exhibition for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting
Kristin Ferraro will present her BFA senior thesis exhibition, “Of the Rockies”, in the Front Gallery of the Bryan Fine Arts Building at Tennessee Tech University. The exhibition will be on view from April 26 through May 10, 2021. The gallery hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
“Of the Rockies”, conveys through the use of purposefully chosen colors and by building up the paint to show either hard or rocky, or soft rolling mountain scenes. This showcases the variety of the mountains themselves, the emotions evoked when viewing the beauty of the mountain ranges, and their diversity.
