Dunk Tank During Employee Celebration to Benefit Food Pantry
Don’t forget to bring a non-perishable food item to dunk some of Tech’s finest during our Employee Celebration Wednesday, May 8th, at Centennial Plaza. The schedule for our dunkees will be:

Master’s Student, Mark Rine wins 3rd Place at TNGIC 2024 annual Conference
TNGIC 2024 (The Tennessee Geographic Information Council) was a great success, with an amazing turnout of TN Tech current students and recent alumni. Biology Master’s student, Mark Rine won the TennesseeView Remote Sensing Student Paper Competition with his presentation on “Spatiotemporal Fish Assemblage Patterns Associated with Fluctuating Flow in a Cumberland River Watershed in Tennessee”. Dr. Kit Wheeler is Mark’s advisor, and he completed this project as part of his project for Dr. Samantha Allen’s Fundamental of Environmental Spatial Analysis course. Congratulations, Mark, on your hard work!

Golf Selection Show – May 1
The Tennessee Tech men’s golf team cordially invites Golden Eagle fans to its Selection Show Watch Party on Wednesday, May 1 as the purple and gold await to hear its destination for the 2024 NCAA Regionals. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. CT.
After earning its first Ohio Valley Conference Tournament title since 1990 behind a dramatic, 3-2 win over SIUE in the league’s match-play championship on Wednesday, the Golden Eagles are headed to its first NCAA Tournament since nearly 35 years. Tech will learn its placement in the field with the official NCAA Tournament selection show at 1:00 p.m. and all fans are encouraged to attend, free of charge, a special viewing party in the Eagles Nest on the fourth floor of the Hooper Eblen Center.
Light refreshments will be served and the whole team and coaching staff will be in attendance to revel in the joyous occasion.

Environmental Sciences – Biology PhD student received Smithsonian Fellowship award
We are pleased to share the good news that Environmental Sciences-Biology PhD student Brooke Grubb has received a Smithsonian Fellowship award, and Brooke will be in residence at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, for the 10-week period from July 1-September 6, 2024. Brooke worked really hard for this award, and we are quite proud of her.

Hot Water Outage
There will be no hot water or steam on campus May 5-18, 2024 during the annual steam system outage. Natural gas and electric water heaters will continue to operate at Tech Village, New Hall North, Southwest Hall, RUC (for food service only), Lab Science Commons, East Stadium, West Stadium, APC, Foundation Hall, Hooper Eblen and Academic Wellness Center.
This outage is necessary to perform preventative maintenance, and is scheduled annually following spring commencement to minimize impact on other campus events.

Soc/CJ 4540: Women & Crime class tour Bledsoe Co. Correctional Complex
The class toured the Bledsoe Co. Correctional Complex, the main intake facility for the state of TN. Students got to speak with the Warden and correctional staff and toured all areas of the prison. They saw the intake and classification areas, housing of all security levels (from minimum to maximum), the medical facility, cafeteria, and education/programming wings. The highlight of the tour was touring the women’s facility which operates on a nearby “campus” adjacent to the main facility. Throughout the tour, students asked questions pertaining to the daily operation of the prison, what it is like to live in prison, and what it is like to work in prison.

Cory Highway, PhD student, Environmental Science awarded Ducks Unlimited honor
Cory Highway, PhD student, Environmental Science, was awarded the Waterfowl Research Foundation Fellowship from Ducks Unlimited. This prestigious international award recognizes a graduate student who is engaged in research that will provide critical scientific information about waterfowl and wetland conservation. Cory’s research will focus on examining how waterfowl respond to a network of private land rest areas. He works closely with government agencies, private landowners, and NGOs to enhance the impact of his research.

The String Project at Tennessee Tech’s Spring Concert
The String Project at Tennessee Tech will present its Spring Concert on Tuesday, April 30th at 6:00pm in Wattenbarger Auditorium in the Bryan Fine Arts Building. Please join us for this free concert as we present our progress over the past year! Our four student orchestras will perform as well as our new Honors String Quartet and some of our small classes will also highlight their progress. String Project is a collaboration between the School of Music at Tech and the Bryan Symphony Orchestra as a way to bring our string community together here in Cookeville! We have beginners all the way through advanced students from 3rd through 12th grades and even Adult Beginners! Our program gives Tech School of Music string students a truly unique experience by getting hands-on experience teaching our String Project students with involvement from faculty mentors. Math Department hosted an Integration Bee
On Thursday evening April 11, the Math Department hosted an Integration Bee. An online qualifying round resulted in eight students vying in person for the first place prize of $125. Second and third place winners received $75 and $50 respectively. Funds were donated by the College of Arts and Sciences. First place was secured by Charles Hasting, a Senior Math/Chemical Engineering major, from Maryville, TN. Second place went to sophomore Mechanical Engineering major Trevon Collins from Smyrna, TN. Simone Azzani, a sophomore Civil Engineering major from Crossville, TN took third place.Contestants received a T-shirt designed by the Math Club.Many thanks to all who participate -
Drug Safety Moving Supplies – April 25th – Inside the UC!
Storing prescription medication safely while moving is an easy way to protect yourself, your friends and family! The Center for Addiction Prevention and Support will be handing out pill bottle locks and drug disposal packets inside the UC today! We will also have fidgets and stickers to help combat end of semester stress! See you there!
