Share your Wings Up Weekend events with the Crawford Alumni Center
Wings Up Weekend, a celebration of all things purple and gold, will be April 14-16 this year. The Crawford Alumni Center is compiling a list of events that will take place on campus and in the community that weekend, and this will be shared with alumni in the coming weeks. If your department is hosting anything that weekend (an athletics event, Backdoor Playhouse performance, reunion, art show, music recital, etc.), please let us know! And if you know of anything happening in the Upper Cumberland on those dates, we want to know that as well. This could be something at the Cookeville History Museum, a local park, a scavenger hunt, etc. Please email your events to alumnievents@tntech.edu, and we will help promote them!

Tech Faculty Seeking Graduate Students for Rural Reimagined Grant Project
Are you a graduate student looking for a funding opportunity, opportunities for certification, and to make a meaningful difference in the Upper Cumberland area?
A faculty team from the Departments of Sociology & Political Science, Curriculum & Instruction, and School of Human Ecology are seeking to hire 3 graduate students to work on a grant-funded project through Rural Reimagined that will bring Mental Health First Aid and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) trainings to community members throughout 4 Upper Cumberland counties.
In this role, graduate students will become trained ACEs instructors (and will be paid during their training); and will then conduct ACEs trainings with community members primarily in Clay, Jackson, Putnam, and White counties.
Employment will begin no later than February 1st, 2023 and end in June 2023. The pay rate is $17.00 per hour for 10 to 15 hours per week.

Renovation Temporary Locations for Multicultural Affairs/Black Cultural Center
For the spring semester, the Leona Lusk Officer Black Cultural Center and the Multicultural Affairs Office will be undergoing renovations. The office will be temporarily relocated to other spaces on the 2nd floor of the Roaden University Center.
The temporary locations will be RUC 241 (formerly the Noble Cody Suite) for the Multicultural Affairs Graduate Assistant and the Administrative Associate, Mrs. Corinne Johnson. This is the newly renovated student lounge area.
Charria Campbell, Director of Student Engagement & Intercultural Affairs, is in office 214 in the Center for Student Engagement Suite.
Dr. Rob Owens has moved to his permanent office location for the Office of Diversity & Inclusion, RUC 235.

The First Purple Career Readiness Workshop is on January 17!
Join the Center for Career Development on Tuesday, January 17, beginning at 11 a.m. in the Roaden University Center Tech Pride Room (1st floor) for the first Purple Career Readiness Workshop of the semester! Mr. Russ Coughenour, Center for Career Development Director, will teach you about NACE Career Ready Skills, which are sure to impress a potential employer.
This event is open to all students in all majors and counts towards the Purple Career Readiness Certificate for junior and senior students. Bring your Eagle Card with you to receive credit for attendance.

Amanda Carroll New Chair of American Chemical Society’s Student Advisory Board
Congratulations Dr. Amanda Carroll! Dr. Michael Adams, the chair of the American Chemical Society (ACS) Committee on Education (SOCED) has invited Dr. Carroll (Chemistry) to serve as the chair of the Undergraduate Student Advisory Board (USAB) beginning in 2023. According to Amanda, “I have gladly accepted this role! I am excited for the opportunity to provide leadership to the advisory board and to continue to shape the knowledge and experiences for students in chemistry programs around the world. As part of the USAB chair responsibilities, I am also now an Associate member of SOCED.”
The USAB is charged with providing guidance to ACS Student Communities, making recommendations about the future direction of undergraduate program activities to SOCED, creating programs at ACS meetings, constituting working groups to address specific activities or issues related to undergraduate programs, and supporting the professional growth of undergraduate students in the chemical sciences.
According to Dr. Adams, “Dr. Carroll’s experience on USAB and extensive knowledge of issues facing undergraduate education position her well to lead the Advisory Board.” Dr. Carroll served two terms on USAB (2018-present) and, during that time, served as program chair and program co-chair for two ACS spring national meeting undergraduate programs. She has also worked on various other programs and events that positively impact students in the chemical sciences.

Rural Reimagined Congratulates Grand Challenge Grant Recipients
Rural Reimagined is excited to congratulate the awarded recipients of the Grand Challenge Faculty Grant for the year 2023! A total of $144, 076 has been granted to 10 faculty-led, rural-related projects across the university. Grantees came from departments and colleges across the entire university, from the College of Arts and Sciences to the College of Education. Rural Reimagined plans to showcase each of the awarded projects via a series of Tech Times articles in the upcoming weeks and will keep the university updated on the projects’ progress. Wings up!

Four Rural Reimagined Grants Awarded to Arts and Sciences
The College of Arts and Sciences is pleased to announce that four of our faculty received a total of $52,771 in Rural Reimagined grants. The Center for Rural Innovation’s, Rural Reimagined Grand Challenge Faculty Grant Program aims to transform rural communities across the state through collaborations with TN Tech faculty and students.
“We are proud of the continued innovation and community involvement of the faculty in our College,” stated Dean Roberts. “These awards allow teaching staff to continue their vital research that enriches our region.”
Principal investigators include Dr. Erica Bower (Sociology and Political Science) “Uniting, Empowering, and Engaging our Upper Cumberland Community to Reduce Mental Health Issues and Substance Misuse,” Dr. Helen Hunt (English) “We Persist: A Women and Gender Studies Seminar in Livingston, Tennessee,” Dr. Ed Lisic (Chemistry) “Increasing Young Student Interest in STEM Education Through Games and Apps,” and Dr. Lauren Michel (Earth Sciences) “Establishment of the Upper Cumberland Climate History Project.”

Part-Time Student Worker Neeeded
Tennessee Tech Office of Graduate Studies is seeking a part-time student worker! This position offers flexible hours, but student is able to work up to 20 hrs/week. Preference will be given to applicant who can work in the afternoon (12pm-4pm). This position is applicable for undergraduate or graduate students. Applicant will need to acquire interpersonal/customer-service skills and will need to be comfortable with Excel as well as social media usage. All majors are welcomed!
