Rural Journeys Speakers Series – Tues., Nov. 17 at 3 pm
The Rural Reimagined Club and TAB is proud to announce our final Rural Journeys Speaker Series session for this semester. Our third virtual conversation will be on Tuesday, November 17th at 3pm. Mason Hilliard and Aaron Lay will be sharing their stories serving as leaders at Tennessee Tech.
Mason is currently an admissions counselor in the Office of Admissions at Tennessee Tech. Born and raised in Greenfield, Weakley County, Tennessee, he graduated from Tech in Fall 2019 with a major in Political Science and a double minor in History and Communication Studies. He has served the Tech community as a Student Orientation Leader, President of the Student Government Association, and Student Trustee.
Aaron is a junior at Tennessee Tech from Madisonville, Tennessee, majoring in Agriculture Communications with a minor in Political Science. He currently serves as Student Body President in the Student Government Association. Upon graduating, he aspires to work in legislative affairs on Capitol Hill before going to law school to practice agriculture and environmental law.

Deadline for submission of ORAU Ralph E. Powe Awards is Noon Fri., Dec. 4
The deadline for submission of ORAU Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards application materials for internal review is noon, Fri., Dec. 4. Full-time assistant professors within two years of their initial tenure track appointment (01/06/2019 – 01/06/2021) are eligible for these $5,000, one-year, grants. Research projects must fall within one of the following five disciplines: Engineering and Applied Science; Life Sciences; Mathematics/Computer Sciences; Physical Sciences; and Policy, Management, or Education. Full details about the requirements can be found on the funding program website.
The application package should contain a one-page abbreviated resume, one-page listing of publications and/or presentations, and two-page research proposal and must be submitted to the Office of Research via research@tntech.edu. An internal review will be conducted and two submissions will be selected for submission.
Selected faculty will be notified on Dec. 14 and the final deadline for application to ORAU is Jan. 6, 2021.

Many online and alternate deliver fees to be waived for Spring 2021
To be mindful of the financial pressures students are experiencing during the pandemic, the university has decided to waive online and alternate delivery fees for many Spring 2021 online courses. If a course is online instead of in-person due to the pandemic, the university will not charge students an online fee for that course.
Please note that there are a limited number of online programs, including TNecampus undergraduate and graduate courses, where online fees will be assessed: DMBA, MACC, Nursing MSN, Nursing DNP and RN-BSN, EXPW Graduate Program, and Professional Studies Graduate Program. TNeCampus courses have had fees since the late 1990s, and due to state consortium rules, those courses will continue to have online fees that the university cannot waive.

Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Informational Session- Nov. 17
The Student Members of the American Chemical Society (SMACS) and Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (oSTEM) are hosting an informational session about Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs) on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 11 a.m. in Foster 233. Two senior chemistry majors will discuss how to find REUs, the application process, as well as their experiences at their REUs programs during summer 2019. Learn how to get paid to conduct research at sites acorss the country as you build your resume. All majors are welcome. Questions can be sent to acarroll@tntech.edu.

The Student Members of the American Chemical Society are hosting a spirit night fundraiser at Chipotle on Tuesday, Nov. 17 from 5 – 9 p.m. A portion of the night’s proceeds will be donated to the chapter for campus and community outreach. The Veterans Day Ceremony will be held today (Thursday) at 11 a.m. in front of Jere Whitson. The kickball tournament has been pushed back to 11:30 a.m.

Virtual Employer Spotlight featuring the Tennessee State Parks will host Session #1 on Monday, Nov. 16 from 3-4 pm and Session #2 on Tuesday, Nov. 17 from 11am – noon. Join recruiters as they share information about their Seasonal Interpretive Ranger positions! Seasonal Interpreter/Recreators (SIRs) provide interpretive programs for park guests such as guided tours, hikes, workshops, canoe floats, slide shows, demonstrations, campfires and other outdoor activities. They assist park rangers in the protection of natural and cultural features, and other resource management-related activities as assigned.

Proposals are now being accepted from faculty seeking Non-Instructional Faculty Assignments for the 2021-2022 academic year. The purposes of the non-instructional assignments are: to contribute to the professional growth of the faculty; to improve the teaching and the curriculum across the University; and/or to enhance the scholarship and academic excellence of the University in ways that cannot be accomplished under the constraints of the regular workload assignments. Submission Deadlines: Friday, Jan. 15, 2021 – Suggested Deadline for Proposals to Department Chairs; Friday, January 29, 2021 – Deadline for Proposals to Academic Affairs.
