Veterans Day Ceremony 2023
The Military and Veteran Affairs department at Tennessee Tech would like to invite you to this year’s Veterans Day Ceremony.
The ceremony to commemorate that day will be held on Tuesday, November 7 at 11am on the Main Quad in front of the Jere Whitson Building. The event will feature speakers such as President Phillip Oldham and MG (Ret) Edward F. Dorman III, as well as performances by the Brass Arts Quintet, a cannon salute, and others.
Please join us for this solemn ceremony to honor all who served. A reception will follow. All are welcome.

Microsoft TeamsSo far, 15% of our faculty (n=66) have participated in a town hall. General Education impacts all students in all colleges. This is an opportunity to share your ideas of what Tech graduates are expected to know as a foundation for both their academic studies and future lives.
Let us know what skills and knowledge Tennessee Tech graduates should have to best prepare them for their intended careers and their future as informed citizens of the state, region, nation and world. We want to hear from you!
Light refreshments will be provided.
Please encourage your students to attend the meetings held specifically for students. The next student town hall will be Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. in Lab Science Commons 1119.

Holiday Festival at the Appalachian Center for Craft!
People of all ages are invited to the Appalachian Center for Craft’s Annual Holiday Festival November 18-19, 2023 at their campus in Smithville. The event will feature a 25% discount in the retail gallery and free kid’s crafts all weekend. In addition, guests on Saturday can enjoy face-painting, lunch by Logan’s Snack Shack, a student art sale and workshops. Workshops include making your own glass ornament, pyrography and dyed silk scarves. Holiday Festival workshops are ticketed and advanced registration online or by phone is encouraged. Student Admittance for the Homecoming Football Game on 11/4 vs. UT Martin
Your TTU Golden Eagle Football team takes on UT Martin for homecoming on November 4 at 1:30 p.m. Gates open one hour prior to kick-off. Students MUST SHOW their Eagle Card at the gates for admittance in to the football games. No outside food or drink are allowed in Tucker Stadium. Co-op Meetup #4 is on Thursday, November 2, in Roaden University Center Tech Pride Room beginning at 11 a.m. New guidelines, which went into effect Fall 2022 for engineering student enrollment, will be shared.

Gold Career Readiness PART TWO Workshop on November 2!
Join the Center for Career Development on Thursday, November 2, beginning at 11 am in Clement Hall 212 for this Gold Career Readiness PART TWO Workshop! This workshop will feature Regions Bank, who will provide insight regarding how to create a successful budget while in college!
This event is open to all students in all majors and counts toward Part Two of the Gold Career Readiness application for freshman and sophomore students. Bring your Eagle Card with you to receive credit for attendance.

Center Stage Call for Submissions
Center Stage is accepting proposals for the 2024-2025 school year. The program presents guest lectures, concerts, exhibits, readings, dramatic performances, etc. that promote greater appreciation of fine arts and seeks to connect students with a better understanding of diverse ideas and world cultures.
The series is developed a year in advance from proposals submitted by full-time employees of the Tennessee Tech campus community, in conjunction with a student representative, who offer to serve as Campus Hosts. The proposals are determined by the Policy and Oversight Committee (POC).

Patrena Hicks Retirement Party set for Tuesday, Nov. 7

2023-24 basketball season tickets are on sale now! Tech employees receive season tickets at a discounted rate of only $65.00. Now with your purchase of season tickets, each household will receive a FREE popcorn bucket and the first bucket of popcorn is on us! Bring your bucket back to each game this season and refill it for only $8. Fans are limited to one popcorn bucket per household. All popcorn buckets must be picked up in person at the Hooper Eblen Center ticket office.

Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Felicity Hills, University of Michigan
This week’s Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar will be given by University of Michigan graduate student Felicity Hills. In her talk A Graduate Student Journey: From Biomathematics to a Search for the Neutron’s Electric Dipole Moment, Felicity will describe how as a graduate student she is contributing to a worldwide effort aimed at better understanding fundamental aspects of the universe by searching for the neutron’s electric dipole moment. That’s not what she started out studying, however, so Felicity will also talk about how she found her way to this particular research. The seminar will be this Friday at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210 with snacks served starting at 3:30pm. These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend! WEST Workshop: Rhetorical Situations!
The rules for writing aren’t always the same. What works in a Freshman Composition paper doesn’t work in a lab report, and your best strategies for writing a Spanish essay won’t necessarily apply when writing a med school statement. All of this varies based on your audience and the rules of the genre, what we call the “rhetorical situation.” Want help understanding this issue? WEST, the Writing Excellence Studio at Tech, has got you covered! On Thursday, 11/2, we will be leading a dead hour workshop on understanding and working within rhetorical situations. We can talk about ways to assess different rhetorical situations, and how to figure out the “rules” for any given piece of writing. The workshop will be in Henderson Hall 304B, from 11:00-11:50. No registration is required, and all are welcome. And if you can’t make the workshop, come for a one-on-one session with one of our consultants. It’s Homecoming Week! Join us at Tucker Stadium this Saturday, November 4 at 1:30 p.m. as your Tennessee Tech football team takes on the UT-Martin Skyhawks. The homecoming parade begins at 10:30 a.m. starting at the south end of Dixie Ave. and ending at Tucker Stadium. Eagle walk will begin at 11:15 a.m. at the Tailgate Park.
