BIDE meeting November 19th
BIDE (Body Image and Disordered Eating) is an all-inclusive peer support group that promotes self-growth and self-acceptance. Have a body and not sure how to feel about it? You are welcome here. Rural Journeys Speaker Series – Tues., Nov. 17 at 3 pm
The Rural Reimagined Club and TAB is proud to announce the final Rural Journeys Speaker Series session of the semester! Our third virtual conversation will be on Tuesday, November 17th at 3pm. Mason Hilliard and Aaron Lay will be sharing their rural stories as leaders at Tennessee Tech.
Born and raised in Greenfield, Weakley County, Tennessee, Mason graduated from Tennessee Tech in Fall 2019 with a major in Political Science and a double minor in History and Communication Studies. He has previously served as the Student Government Association President and Student Trustee on the Board of Trustees. Mason is currently an undergraduate admissions counselor in the Office of Admissions and travels throughout West Tennessee to encourage students to enroll at Tech.
Aaron is a junior at Tennessee Tech from Madisonville, Tennessee, majoring in Agriculture Communications with a minor in Political Science. He currently serves as Student Body President in the Student Government Association. Aaron is also involved as a President’s Ambassador and as a Student Ambassador for the College of Agriculture and Human Ecology. Upon graduating, he aspires to work in legislative affairs on Capitol Hill before going to law school to practice agriculture and environmental law.

EVENT: November 17, 2020 | Drive-thru Drop-off:
Between 11am and 2pm in front of the Roaden University Center. Pull down to the unloading zone where volunteers will collect bags from vehicles. Please have your items in a clear plastic grocery or Ziploc bag and include your $9 shipping fee. We will box them for you.
EVENT: November 19, 2020 | Outside Packing Party on the Plaza:
- Between 11am – 2pm on Centennial Plaza. We will have all collected items sorted on tables for you to make boxes onsite and/or donate to the shipping fees. Volunteers will be wearing gloves and masks to assist you in making boxes.
Please check the website for suggested items for a box and prohibited items.

Dr. Van Neste Presents in the CoE New Faculty Seminar Series
Charles Van Neste Ph.D. from the department of Electrical & Computer Engineering will be presenting his talk on “A New Wireless: Sending Power Over and Through Surfaces” on Tuesday, Nov. 17th from 4:30-5:30 p.m. via Zoom. Dr. Van Neste is 6th and final member in six series line up from the College of Engineering.

Blood Drive in Main Quad Wednesday, November 18
Alpha Phi Omega at Tennessee Tech is sponsoring a Blood Drive with Blood Assurance in the main quad on Wednesday, November 18, from 10 am to 4 pm. Blood supplies are currently critically low right now, so every pint donated is greatly appreciated!

Sisters Rising virtual film screening on 11/16 at 6 p.m.
Join the Women’s Center for a screening of Sisters Rising, a sixty-minute film followed by a short discussion led by Dr. Brian Williams of English. Sisters Rising is the story of six Native American women fighting to restore personal and tribal sovereignty in the face of ongoing sexual violence against Indigenous women in the United States. Deadline for submission of ORAU Ralph E. Powe Awards is Noon Fri., Dec. 4
The deadline for submission of ORAU Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards application materials for internal review is noon, Fri., Dec. 4. Full-time assistant professors within two years of their initial tenure track appointment (01/06/2019 – 01/06/2021) are eligible for these $5,000, one-year, grants. Research projects must fall within one of the following five disciplines: Engineering and Applied Science; Life Sciences; Mathematics/Computer Sciences; Physical Sciences; and Policy, Management, or Education. Full details about the requirements can be found on the funding program website.
The application package should contain a one-page abbreviated resume, one-page listing of publications and/or presentations, and two-page research proposal and must be submitted to the Office of Research via research@tntech.edu. An internal review will be conducted and two submissions will be selected for submission.
Selected faculty will be notified on Dec. 14 and the final deadline for application to ORAU is Jan. 6, 2021.
