Upper Cumberland Development District Internships Opportunities
The Upper Cumberland Development District (UCDD), a partner of Rural Reimagined, is offering a variety of paid, college credit, service learning, or job shadowing internships this Spring. Available internship positions range from 7-20 hours/week and include the following responsibilities: Marketing, event planning, communications, data collection, finance, IT support, social media management, research, grant writing, and more. The UCDD has provided great experiential learning opportunities for TN Tech students in the past, and Rural Reimagined encourages students from all majors and skill sets to get involved! Rural Journeys Speaker Series: Hailey Updike & Misty Phy
The Rural Reimagined Club (RRC) is excited to announce the first Rural Journeys Speaker Series session of the semester. This series is part of the RRC’s mission to build awareness and advocacy for rural communities. Join the first session on Tuesday, February 9th, at 11am via Teams, where Hailey Updike and Misty Phy will be sharing their stories.
Hailey Updike, a Human Ecology major, hopes to raise awareness of the situations foster youth face and highlight the importance of Family and Consumer Sciences education. Misty Phy, a certified Peer Recovery Specialist and the founder of Moments of Mercy, will speak about how her nonprofit corporation uses peer support programs to aid those struggling with hardships.

Rural Reimagined Internship Opportunity: Mayhem Nation
Mayhem Nation is recruiting enthusiastic, creative, and experienced student interns to assist in production within their fast moving and highly relevant media and marketing organization. Internship responsibilities would include the production of professional sports media, social content generation, live content capture and publication, and editing. Interested students must be fluent in Adobe Creative Suite and have experience with photo and video capture, editing, and graphic design. Rural Reimagined encourages all students interested in physical fitness and CrossFit to apply for this internship opportunity. Consider serving as a judge for 16th Annual Research and Creative Inquiry Day
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the 16th Annual Research and Creative Inquiry Day will be in a digital/virtual format again this year, with event activities culminating in a virtual award ceremony at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 20. The event, which is designed to promote and provide a venue for presenting student research and creative inquiry, is open to undergraduate and graduate students from all departments. Therefore, we need judges from across campus to evaluate the students’ work. Please consider serving as a judge, and please also encourage your students to participate.
Poster judging will take place from April 13 through 16. Judges will be provided with the poster files on Tuesday, April 13, and will have until Friday, April 16, to enter scores via an online form. If you are willing to serve as a poster judge, please register at the judge registration link. Scholastic Research Award Applications Due Feb. 28
The Scholastic Research Award, presented by the University Research Advisory Committee, is a university-wide award for a single, significant and innovative work produced, published, performed or exhibited from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2020. Two awards, of $1,500 each, are available each year, with one reserved for tenure-track faculty and the other reserved for tenured faculty. Applications must be submitted electronically in a single PDF to sstorie@tntech.edu on or before Feb. 28, 2021. Consider participating in the 16th Annual Research and Creative Inquiry Day

To participate in the event, students must submit an abstract (limited to 250 words) of their project via the abstract submission link (https://tf.tntech.edu/machform/view.php?id=1056649) by 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, March 10. No abstracts will be accepted after this date. It is expected that each submitted abstract will be developed into a poster (or paper for those in the English Department) to be submitted during the April event. Poster files do not need to be printed but must be completed by Monday, April 12.

Spring is right around the corner for our area; this could mean Tornadoes
Tornadoes can occur any time of the year, but usually occur in the spring and summer. Considered nature’s most violent and erratic storms, they are formed by severe thunderstorms, and consist of whirling winds of up to 300 miles per hour. Tornadoes can sweep through an area, causing serious damage and destruction. In addition to injuries and structural damage, electrical shorts, gas leaks, etc., may create fires or other hazards. Everyone must understand the terminology associated with tornado safety.
What is the difference between a Tornado WATCH and a Tornado WARNING?
A Tornado WATCH is issued by the NOAA Storm Prediction Center meteorologists who watch the weather 24/7 across the entire U.S. for weather conditions that are favorable for tornadoes and severe weather. A watch can cover parts of a state or several states. Watch and prepare for severe weather and stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio to know when warnings are issued.
A Tornado WARNING is issued by your local NOAA National Weather Service Forecast Office meteorologists who watch the weather 24/7 over a designated area. This means a tornado has been reported by spotters or indicated by radar and there is a serious threat to life and property to those in the path of the tornado. A tornado warning indicates that you should ACT NOW to find safe shelter! A warning can cover parts of counties or several counties in the path of danger.
Please take the time now to become familiar with shelter areas located in your facility. Should a Tornado WARNING be issued, seek immediate shelter inside a building at your designated shelter area. If you have questions, please contact your respective Building Coordinator.

Accounting Club Meeting on February 4th!

Information about us: The Accounting Club is a student-run organization designed for students who want to explore accounting as a major, and all students are invited. Invitation of Participants to Tennessee Tech Pilot EV Demonstration Project
Tennessee Tech is currently conducting a U.S. Department of Energy-supported electric vehicle demonstration project to promote EV awareness and readiness in the Upper Cumberland region in Tennessee. Volunteers from Tennessee Tech and the Upper Cumberland region, are needed to participate in the project. Qualified volunteers will be retaining a market EV product (e.g., Nissan Leaf and plug-in hybrid pickup truck) for their daily applications for up to two weeks at no cost other than charging cost. The participating volunteers will have the opportunities to learn more information about EV such as the upfront purchase cost, the operational cost, EV performance and operation, and others. GRADUATE STUDENTS: Extended Application Deadline for Spring 2021 Graduation
In addition to satisfying all degree requirements, a candidate must file an Application for Graduation at the beginning of the semester in which the degree is expected to be conferred.
The last date for the filing of the application for spring 2021 graduation is Monday, February 8th, 2021.
Spring 2021 Graduation Application
A graduate student shall be enrolled during the term in which the degree is awarded. If a student applies for graduation but fails to satisfy graduation requirements, the student must reapply.
