Eagle Works Elevator Pitch workshop!
Do you get nervous when you have to make presentations? Are you never sure how to start? Do you just want to improve the skills you have? This workshop will help you prepare for the Idea Challenge on Nov. 10 (more details on the Eagle Works website!), and teach skills that will be useful in class and career! Being able to give a short elevator pitch about yourself or your idea could make a difference in your future!
This workshop will be on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 5 p.m. in the iMakerspace. The iMakerspace is on the third floor of Volpe Library. Use the north staircase (past the MyTECH helpdesk) to access. If you need an accessible entrance, please email Andrea at akruszka@tntech.edu before 4:30 p.m. that day to arrange.

Dance Your Bones Away with FUTURO
Come and join TN Tech FUTORO for our last Hispanic Heritage Month event. To conclude our celebration, we are hosting a dance night at the Stem Center. Come out on the 28th to celebrate and enjoy the festivities, we will be there from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Food and Refreshment will be PROVIDED.

Student Nurses’ Association Meeting on Thursday!
Are you a Nursing major or interested in becoming one? If so, come to the Student Nurses’ Association meeting this Thursday at 11am in Bell Hall room 264. This organization is a great way to meet other Nursing students and become more involved on campus and in the community. We will also have a guest speaker from Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital coming to talk about her experience in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Snacks and drinks will be provided! We hope to see you there!

Halloween Costume Bike Trail Clean-up on October 27!
Halloween is approaching, and so is our Halloween Costume Clean-up! Join the Sustainable Campus Committee in cleaning up the mile of the bike trail that Tennessee Tech has adopted. We will meet at Foundation Hall parking lot at 3:30 on October 27! All materials will be provided. We ask that you bring yourself, a friend, and a costume fit for a clean-up! We hope to see you there!
*Note: Costumes are not required but highly encouraged!

The Haunting of BFA
The Haunting of BFA is an event hosted annually by the TTU Percussion Studio. This Saturday night, The Bryan Fine Arts Building will be turned into a haunted house and will showcase spooky performances from the Percussion Studio. This year we are adding two kid friendly tours at 6:00pm and 6:45pm, which will include a trunk or treat as well. The other tours will be at 7:30pm and 8:15pm. Come out and enjoy a taste of Halloween right here on our campus!

What a SPLASH!
What a SPLASH! This fall break, Tennessee Tech had 12 scuba students participate in a trip to John Pennekamp State Park. The students specifically went to Key Largo’s marine sanctuary where they were able to complete check out dives. These are required in order to complete their Divemaster certification and consist of giving a guided dive. The students and instructors had a great time and after 17 dives overall, were able to gain 7 new open water divers as well as 2 advanced divers. These people consist of Taylor Erb, Julie Warmath, Luke Hicks, Chris Swindell, Riley Schrick, Abigail Sandman, Warren Carnes, and José Rodriquez. The students also participated in a deep dive of 102 ft and a thrilling night dive in the Atlantic Ocean. Students and instructors had loads of fun and look forward to their next trip where they will once again introduce new lives to the wonders of the Atlantic.

Drag-o-Ween on the Plaza!
On October 29th, Lambda GSA is putting on Drag-0-Ween from 9:30PM-11:30 PM in Centennial Plaza. It is a free Halloween Drag Show with complimentary candy. Costumes are encouraged for anyone attending and if you are able, bring ones in order to tip the performers. You won’t want to miss this event!

Are you interested in Co-op? If so, then this virtual Co-op Meetup on Tuesday, Oct. 26, via Microsoft Teams at 11 a.m. is your last chance. Any student interested in accepting a Cooperative Education position with an employer MUST attend a Co-op Meetup.
The Co-op Meetup will explain the eligibility guidelines for enrolling in the Cooperative Education Program, which went into effect July 1, 2019 for all students. Pre-registration to enroll in the Co-op Program is now required and attending a Co-op Meetup is your first step! The ASPIRES Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program is launching soon at Tech
We are excited to announce that Dr. Ann Hellman and Dr. Shelia Hurley have recently been awarded a grant to start a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) program at Health Services. This is something that has been needed in the Tech and Cookeville communities for some time. SANEs are RNs who have been trained to provide comprehensive care to sexual assault patients and to show compassion and sensitivity to survivors of sexual assault. They have competency in evidence collection and court testimony. This program will be serving members of the Tennessee Tech community affected by sexual violence including students, staff, and faculty. As part of this grant, Drs. Hellman and Hurley have also secured funds to train several Victim Advocates to support survivors. Erin Murray, previously of Project AWAKEN, will be working with ASPIRES as a Victim Advocate. Current plans are for the grant to launch January, 10, 2022. Stay tuned for more details as we approach the new year.

First Horizon Foundation supports Financial Literacy Program
The First Horizon Foundation recently presented Tennessee Tech with a $6,000 gift to support the College of Business’s financial literacy program. First Horizon’s support will allow Tech to deliver a one-credit-hour course in spring 2022 titled Financial Literacy for Entrepreneurs. The course will emphasize practical financial skills for entrepreneurs, offering a high-level examination of financial statements, ratio analysis, time value of money and the essentials of starting a business in Tennessee. It will conclude with a panel discussion, consisting of entrepreneurs and individuals involved in debt and equity financing, which will be open to local community members. The class will also provide faculty and graduate assistants with the opportunity to engage in research to improve student outcomes related to financial literacy concepts.

Call for EDGE QEP curriculum grant applications!
EDGE: Enhanced Discovery through Guided Exploration is Tennessee Tech’s Quality Enhancement Plan. The EDGE Creative Inquiry Course Grant Program offers Faculty the opportunity to redesign undergraduate or graduate courses to include creative inquiry projects and assignments. In addition, the EDGE rubric is now an optional method of assessing student work – faculty may propose another method for assessment. The limit on individual course grants is $5,000. The limit on multiple-course curriculum grants is $15,000. November 5 is the application deadline.
