Research and Creative Inquiry Day virtual poster judging taking place this week
The 16th annual Research and Creative Inquiry event is currently taking place at Tennessee Tech! This event is designed to promote student research and creative inquiry and provide a venue for presenting that work. There were 222 abstracts submitted representing 330+ current students from 22 schools and departments across campus. This week, participants submitted 204 posters and papers for judging, many of which will be available at this link for viewing by the campus community for the remainder of the Spring semester. Pardon Me Daylily: Britnee Holley Senior Thesis Exhibition
Senior Thesis Exhibition for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fibers
Britnee Holley will present her BFA senior thesis exhibition, “Pardon Me Daylily”, in the Front Gallery at the Appalachian Center for Craft. The exhibition will be on view from April 21 through May 4, 2021. The gallery hours are Monday through Saturday 10 am – 5pm and Sunday 12pm – 5pm.
“Pardon Me Daylily” is an installation of fiber art that includes woven materials, hand embroidery, and dyed silk. Each piece in the exhibition represents one of the three major stages of life of a daylily: a green bud, full bloom, and the dying flower. The embroidery shows a microscopic visual of the floral life cycle and the installation of woven work is a macroscopic experience of being surrounded by the flower.

Join us virtually for this enriching Lecture/Performance on Thursday, April 15, 2021 11:00 AM Central TimeThis lecture/performance aims to foster awareness of Latin American cultural diversity through an emphasis on the relationship between music, culture, and history in the region. We will explore the indigenous music of countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Cuba, and Colombia. The presentation includes a brief introduction to the region, its history and cultural expressions, performance of selected genres and styles, discussion of selected Latin American indigenous instruments, and interactive music activities with students.

Friday, Apr. 16, is the final day to submit your Career Readiness Application for the Spring 2021 semester. Open Call to Artists and Curators
The Appalachian Center for Craft (ACC) is pleased to receive submission proposals from artists/craftspeople and curators for exhibitions for 2022 and 2023.
The ACC is interested in cultivating and showcasing work that strengthens the role of craft in contemporary culture. ACC Galleries exhibit traditional and contemporary fine craft by emerging, mid-career, and established craft artists. We are seeking work that highlights mastery in craftsmanship, celebrates craft and/or pushes the boundaries of craft. Exhibitions can be individual or group shows.
The selection committee will be looking for bodies of work/installations that are cohesive, well-considered, informative, and which promote craft and contemporary craft practices. Exhibitions are two months in duration and a $200 honorarium per exhibition is offered to help support shipping/delivery of artwork. Artwork is insured while on the premises.

We are about to break ground on activity field project
Members of our Golden Eagle Marching Band won’t have very far to march in order to practice their on-the-field routines.
We will be breaking ground for phase one of a $150,000 activity field project across North Dixie from the Bryan Fine Arts Building. The band practice tower will be relocated on the 6.6 acres green space in front of Walton House.
“The School of Music is excited about the relocation of the marching band tower and looks forward to a much closer practice field,” said Colin Hill, our interim director for the School of Music. “The President’s lawn is directly across the street from the Bryan Fine Arts building, which is significantly closer than the seven-minute walk to Sherlock Park. Especially when inclement weather hits, getting students and instruments indoors quickly will be much easier in this new location. Further, this location eliminates some occasional noise issues between marching band rehearsals and soccer games.
The band currently practices in Sherlock Park, so the move to the new green space allows groundbreaking to begin in the fall for the new Engineering Building.
“We really want to get the band tower relocated here before school starts up in August,” said Chuck Roberts, vice president for facilities and business services during a recent interview on a local radio station. “So, we should have that band tower relocated out there in the June-July time frame. They’ll be able to utilize that when they have camps starting to open up at the beginning of the school year.”
Roberts said the field is not specific to the band, students will be able to use the space for outdoor recreation. He said it will function similar to Sherlock Park. There will be some lighting, water stations and benches included in the area.
Roberts also said an architect is working to design our vision for the field moving forward and that phase one can be completed with funds already allocated.
