July 19-24 Weeklong Workshop: Portraits and Process
Explore portrait photography through both digital and analog approaches. In this hands-on workshop, participants will work with studio lighting, available light, and on-location setups to create expressive portraits. We’ll cover essential digital workflow and Photoshop editing, then introduce large-format photography using a 4×5 camera. After developing the film, participants will scan their negatives and prepare final images for inkjet printing. Open to photographers of all experience levels. Students are encouraged to bring a DSLR camera if they have one, but cameras will be available in the studio. Computer science department produces award-winning coin for graduates
Tech’s Department of Computer Science received a Tennessee College Public Relations Association bronze communication award in the specialty item category for a custom challenge coin — one of 12 awards Tech received this year and the department’s sixth since 2024. The silver coin features graphics representing Tech’s computer science and AI majors and cybersecurity and high-performance computing concentrations, and commemorates the department’s 40th anniversary. Notice to submit Foundation gifts
Please submit Foundation cash gifts to University Advancement by noon, June 29. Timely submissions allow us to acknowledge donors promptly and enter the gifts by the end of the fiscal year.
Staff members who accept tangible property must submit a gift-in-kind form documenting the donation. If your department has accepted any items from a donor, alum, or business this fiscal year, please submit a gift-in-kind form no later than Wednesday, June 24. Weeklong Workshop – Hinged Objects: Lockets and Boxes on July 19 – 24
Keep your friends close, and your favorite objects even closer! In this metalworking class, students will learn the fundamentals of creating small hinged forms such as lockets and boxes designed to hold small treasures. Through hands-on instruction in knuckle hinges, soldering techniques, embellishments, and finishing, participants will gradually build the skills needed to design and complete a hinged copper object of their choice. Whether you choose to wear it as jewelry or keep it as a small trinket, how you show off your finished piece is up to you! No experience required.

Weeklong Workshop – Shape Up: Building a Glassblowing Vocabulary on July 19 – 24
Form is the canvas upon which we build our personal expression in glassblowing. In this class, students will build and expand their vocabulary of blown shapes in the hotshop and refine their skills in basic glassblowing technique. We will cover the techniques behind the most basic shapes in blown glass including cylinders, bottles and bowls; and discuss how variations in those shapes can lead to a near limitless variety of forms. Open to first-time and intermediate glass blowing students.

Registration Open NOW for C&S Staff Day 2026!
Registration is open now for this year’s annual Clerical & Support Staff Day on Friday, August 7th! The Staff Advisory Committee have planned a half day (8:00 am-12:00 pm) filled with guest speakers, vendors, and breakfast and refreshments. Free C&S Day tote bags will be given to those who register by the Friday, 7/17 deadline and attend the event. We are asking attendees to support the Michelle Huddleston Memorial Food Pantry and bring a non-perishable food item for donation. Weeklong Workshop: Pottery Boot Camp with Audry Deal-McEver on July 19 – 24
This beginner to advanced level workshop teaches students the technical skills needed to work on the pottery wheel. Beginners will learn the introductory basics needed to create cups, mugs, bowls, vases, and more. Advanced students will get individual guidance to help reinforce their foundational knowledge and will be guided through more advanced techniques (such as “thrown and altered” shapes and composite/assembled forms). Class time will include demonstrations, guided practice time, and one-on-one help. Note: Due to time constraints, students will take home a range of finished pots and “works in progress.”
