Tech Women Attend Women in Higher Education Conference
Tennessee Tech was well represented at this year’s Women in Higher Education in Tennessee Conference, “Women in Leadership: Breaking Barriers & Empowering Change,” held at Motlow State Community College. Dr. Alice Camuti, Associate Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, led a session on “The Fundamental Four: Critical Competencies for Today’s Higher Education Professional.” Tennessee Tech is proud to have such strong representation at this inspiring event that empowers professionals to break barriers and drive change in higher education. Art Round TN First Friday at the UC
Art Round Tennessee’s final First Friday of the year will be held on Oct 4th, 5pm-8pm, in the lobby of the University Center. Seven local artists will be selling their artwork along with live music featuring a student ensemble from Tech’s school of music. This event will also feature an in memorium of Tech alum, Jesse Filoteo. Jesse’s work will be for sale with the proceeds going to help establish a scholarship in his name. The Joan Derryberry Art Gallery will also be open for viewing of the current Fiber exhibit by Rachel Meginness.

WEST Workshop 10/3: Rhetorical Situations
The rules for writing aren’t always the same. What works in a Freshman Composition paper doesn’t work in a lab report, and your strategies for writing a Spanish essay won’t apply with a med school statement. All of this varies based on what we call the “rhetorical situation.” Want help understanding this issue? WEST, the Writing Excellence Studio at Tech, has got you covered! On Thursday, 10/3, we will be leading a dead hour workshop on understanding rhetorical situations. We can talk about ways to assess different situations and how to figure out the “rules” for any piece of writing. The workshop will be in Henderson Hall 304B, from 11:00-11:50. No registration is required. And if you can’t make the workshop, come for a one-on-one session with one of our consultants. For availability and scheduling, check out our website. Mindfulness Matters Workshop
Join the Center for Counseling and Mental Health Wellness for a mindfulness workshop on Tuesday, October 8, 11am, on the main quad (north side in front of Derryberry). Together we’ll go over techniques and practices for you to utilize and help bring focus to the mind and grounding to the body! All students, faculty, and staff are welcome!

King Promoted to UPD Lieutenant
University Police Department recently promoted Sgt. Taylor King to a Lieutenant rank. LT. King joined the University Police Department in 2017 as a patrolman from Cookeville Police Department. Lt. King is currently the accreditation manager, TASER instructor, range instructor, and has training as a Field Training Officer and SWAT.
Lt. King will begin his new shift the first week of November after the department meets it first accreditation benchmark.

French Movie Night – Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 6 pm
Join us on October 2 to enjoy an iconic French comedy: “Asterix and Obelix: mission Cleopatra”. The movie will be shown in French with English subtitles. Free event.
This movie is an adaptation of a Belgian series of graphic novels called Asterix, which tells the story of two Gauls, Asterix and Obelix, who help their village in Brittany resist to the Roman invasion thanks to a secret magic potion brewed by the village druid. In this specific adventure, the two heroes embark for Egypt to help Queen Cleopatra win a bet against Julius Ceasar, their eternal enemy.
This comedy will be shown at 6 p.m., on Wednesday October 2, in Henderson Hall 205. Bring a friend!

Tech Volleyball Hosts Conference Match vs. Western Illinois
Support your Tennessee Tech Volleyball team at the Hooper Eblen Center as they battle the Leathernecks of Western Illinois on Thursday, October 3 at 2:00 p.m. and Friday, October 4 at 2:00 p.m. The Golden Eagles will be celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month! All fans are encouraged to wear pink and help spread awareness of the disease and its effects. There will also be a special performance by your Tennessee Tech Spirit Squad between sets 2 and 3 on Friday. Admission is free for all fans!
