International Jobs and Careers in Diplomacy Panel
On Thursday, March 25, TTU’s Department of Foreign Languages, in conjunction with the Tennessee World Affairs Council, is hosting the once-a-semester International Jobs and Careers Panel, this time with a focus on careers in diplomacy.
This event gives students interested in a diplomatic career the chance to hear from professionals in that field, to get career advice, and to ask questions. The panel will be held from 5:30-6:30 over Zoom, and is free of charge.

Motor Madness Charity Car Show
Omega Phi Alpha invites you for ‘Motor Madness’, a car show fundraiser that benefits the Nashville based charity Soles for Souls. All proceeds from the event will go towards recycling old shoes and donating the new ones to children and adults living in need. The car show will be April 3rd, 2021 from 10:00-3:00 at the Putnam County Fairgrounds, located at 155 Fairground St. Adult entry is $5, and children under 5 are free. To enter your car in our show for the potential to win prizes donated by our local auto stores and businesses, it’s an additional $5. Water Week: TNTech Wetlands Cleanup this Saturday, March 27!
In honor of Tennessee Tech’s second annual Water Week (March 22-26), join TTU Water Professionals and Engineers Without Borders as they host a cleanup of the campus wetlands on Saturday, March 27, at 9:00 am. We will meet at the purple parking beside Tech Village and the intramural fields. Please wear closed toed shoes and comfortable clothing. We will practice social distancing and all cleanup supplies will be provided by the TN Tech Office of Sustainability. #TNTechWaterWeek

Water Week: Creative Writing Contest!
The Office of Sustainability is hosting our first ever Creative Writing Contest for this year’s Water Week (March 22-26)! We are open to all forms of creative writing, such as short stories, plays, poems, comics, etc. The only criteria is that your work must be centered around the theme of WATER and be no longer than 1,000 words! Submissions are due on March 26th. The winner will receive a sustainability gift bag and be featured on our website and social media! Please email submissions to TTUGreen@tntech.edu.

The Rainbow Coalition, Virtual Panel Discussion
Virtual panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Troy Smith, with members of the Rainbow Coalition and representatives for building bridges against social injustice. Join us as we welcome Aaron Dixon (Black Panther Party), Henry “Poison” Gaddis (Black Panther Party), Melodi Serna (American Indian Center), Chuck Armsbury (Patriot Party) and Hy Thurman (Young Patriot Party) and learn about collaborative activism for social justice.

Appalachian Center for Craft – Virtual Workshop Enrollment Continues
The Craft Center is now offering virtual workshops! Learn a new skill from the comfort and safety of your own home. We will mail all the materials and tools that you need directly to you. Class options include making a decorative mask in ceramics, creating a ceramic coffee mug, dyeing with Shibori, creating a decorative copper bookmark, and miniature case bound books. All you need is a space to work and a Zoom account. Zoom sessions will include artist demonstrations and directions with amply opportunity to practice and Zoom again to gain new information and ask questions. Celebration of Craft – Free Kids’ Craft Kits Available Now
Celebration Kids’ Crafts activities are designed to complete at home this year! Pick up free kits to complete five hands-on kids craft activities at the Craft Center Gallery right now, at the Putnam County Library in the Children’s Department beginning March 31, and in our booth in Dogwood Park April 6 and 7, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Kits contain tools and materials to create an origami book, a suncatcher, an air-dry clay turtle, a sun print (cyanotype) on paper, and a mosaic flower pot to fill with included soil and seeds. Just add sunshine for the sun prints, running water for cleanup, something to protect your work surface, and a towel to dry your hands! Directions are included or you can view demonstrations recorded by Tennessee Tech University’s Art Education students after March 31, at https://www.tntech.edu/celebrationofcraft.

Chemical Engineering Grad Student Wins 2nd Place in American Fisheries Society
Rural Reimagined congratulates Dennis Piercy, a Master’s Chemical Engineering student, in winning second place for his student presentation at the 2021 Tennessee Chapter of the American Fisheries Society meeting. He presented about the joint research effort between the Water Center and the Chemical Engineering department for producing a nitrogen stripping/oxygenating column for fish hatcheries that would help our rural ecosystems. Dr. Jeff Schaeffer and Dr. Holly Stretz mentored Dennis throughout the project. Regarding his project and presentation, Dennis stated, “This opportunity really has been so unique due to the interdisciplinary cooperation between chemical engineering and the Water Center. I took a chemical engineering design and presented it to fish specialists effectively, and I was so happy that people were interested in the research. This has been an amazing experience that has expanded my knowledge and skill sets as I transition from academia to industry.” Wings up!
