Purple Career Readiness Workshop on Aug. 26: What do Employers Look for
Join the Center for Career Development on Thursday, Aug. 26, beginning at 11 a.m. in the Roaden University Center Multipurpose Room (2nd floor) for the first Purple Career Readiness Workshop of the semester! A panel of employers from Enterprise, Eastman Chemical, Aphena Pharma and Flex-Tek will share their tips and advice on how to impress a potential company after graduating college.
This event is open to all students in all majors and counts towards the Purple Career Readiness Certificate for junior and senior students. Bring your Eagle Card for a quick sign-in.
To attend virtually, access the TEAMS link in Handshake Events. To receive credit for attending, you must log in with your Tennessee Tech email, participate if asked to during the workshop and be present for at least 80% of the presentation, and make sure that your camera is turned on during your attendance.

Spring 2022 Graduation Application Deadline
The deadline to apply for graduation (undergraduates) for Spring 2022 is September 1. If you are intending to complete your degree is Spring 2022 and have not yet applied for graduation, you can apply directly from your Degree Works audit! You can access your degree audit by clicking on the DegWork link in Tech Express.

Friday Focus: Attendance Reporting
Friday Focus sessions are designed to provide just-in-time resources and information for faculty throughout the semester. Each session focuses on a different resource, tool, or program available to faculty. During this session, representatives from the Registrar’s Office will go over the logistics of attendance reporting as we begin a new semester. In addition, you will leave the session with an understanding of how attendance reporting impacts other aspects of student and university success.

Professor Dale Ensor Presents Seminar on Alfred Nobel- Aug 27 at 3:00 p.m.
Professor Emeritus Dale Ensor will present a seminar titled “Alfred Nobel: Chemist, Inventor, Businessman, and Founder of the Nobel Prizes” at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Aug 27 in SLH 126. The presentation is for both technical and lay persons. Questions: acarroll@tntech.edu
Abstract: Alfred Nobel is best known as the founder of the Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Peace. He was a very prolific inventor with 355 patents, a chemist, and a businessman that created an industrial empire in the late 19th century. He was fluent in Swedish, Russian, French, English, and German with an interest in literature and poetry. Alfred’s discovery that nitroglycerine could be stabilized using the diatomaceous earth, kieselguhr, and patented as dynamite changed the construction industry. He once described his greatest weaknesses as having neither wife or children, lacking a sunny disposition, and having only a commonplace life. This presentation will focus on the chemistry and inventions of Alfred Nobel as well as the personal stories that provide us with an insight into his life and the reason for his gift to the world.

Lab Kits
IEEE will be selling lab kits at our office in Brown 234 for the following classes: ECE 2011/3060 (EE lab 1 & EE lab2) for $70.00 , ECE 3160 (digital systems lab) for $30.00, CSC 1300 (Intro. to Computer Programming) for $15.00. We will only be accepting card payments at this time. The hours are 9am-5pm starting Aug 23 to Sept 1.
IEEE Meetings will be Mondays 5:30 – 7:30 pm in the iMakerSpace. IEEE is a great way to meet like minded students passionate about Engineering, and we encourage anyone interested to join. In addition to being lots of fun, IEEE can help further your career during and after college.

Your TN Tech Baja SAE Team will host its first meeting of the year Wednesday, August 25th at 6PM in Prescott 215. This meeting is for anyone wanting to join the team. Any TN Tech student can join as long as they are in good academic standing at the University. We will be going over more information on the team as well as take you on a tour of our shops. WHAT DOES THIS EVEN MEAN? This Wednesday, August 25th at 6pm the Wesley Foundation is hosting a night of outdoor activities including a dunking booth, funnel cakes, cotton candy, other games and foods, AND self-care activities like creating your own facial scrubs, bath salt blends, and facial masks. All are welcome! Wesley is located at 271 E. 9th St. right down the road from Derryberry Hall, and past Spankies.

As the new year is starting to ramp up and new projects are beginning to unfold, Facilities would like to remind everyone about surplus protocols. When a department decides to surplus items please make sure to clearly mark the pieces that will need to be picked up. Please leave all surplus items in the room or area they are in. Do not place items in hallways, thus causing noncompliance to both disability access and fire safety requirements. After items have been labeled, submit a work order request (request type desc: Logistics) to Facilities. Surplus will be picked up within a 30-day time frame of the request being accepted.
