Join the Center for Career Development on Tuesday, Oct. 19, beginning at 11 a.m. in Clement Hall 212 for the first Gold Career Readiness Workshop of the semester! A staff member from the Center for Career Development will be describing the characteristics of a strong, foundational resume.

This event is open to all students in all majors and counts towards the Gold Career Readiness Certificate for freshman and sophomore students. Bring your Eagle Card for a quick sign-in.

To receive credit for attending, you must log in with your Tennessee Tech email, participate if asked to during the workshop and be present for at least 80% of the presentation, and make sure that your camera is turned on during your attendance.

Community and Student Spotlight: Putnam Proud Clean-Up Event

Rural Reimagined recognizes the Tennessee Tech Office of Sustainability for their annual Putnam Proud Clean-up Event. A total of 70 Tech students participated in the clean-up that took place in several different areas of the county including roadsides, bike trails, and parts of campus. Student groups that participated include African Student Union, Student Members of American Chemical Society, Student Government Association, and the Office of Sustainability. A few other student groups plan to participate in a clean-up soon as well. The Office of Sustainability gave out supplies to all groups, and the Clean Commission gave out t-shirts to all who participated. Lydia Young, a student worker in the Office of Sustainability, stated “We look forward to this event every year and love getting to show our appreciation towards Putnam County!”  It was a very successful week of cleaning up Putnam County. Wings up!

You are invited to a presentation on Green Chemistry given by Chance Morris, chemistry major and Green Chemistry chair for the Student Members of the American Chemical Society. The presentation will be Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. in LSC 1211. Chance will discuss the twelve principles of Green Chemistry and how it relates to more sustainable practices. No prior knowledge of chemistry is needed and the event is free and open to all ages. Questions can be sent to smacsttu@gmail.com.

The Student Members of the American Chemical Society invite you to kick off National Chemistry Week (Oct 17-23) with our Mole Day Race on Monday, Oct. 18 from 5-7 p.m. at the Tucker Stadium track. A mole is an important unit in chemistry that helps count large number of particles (6.022×10^23 to be exact!). Help us celebrate by running or walking a mole of zeptometers (602 meters). This event is open to all ages and is free. The event will not take place if it rains. Questions can be sent to smacsttu@gmail.com.

On Tuesday, October 19th, Women of Worth (W.O.W.) present “Mental Health and Personal Safety” with Guest Speaker Shonteria Russell at 6pm in the Multipurpose Room of the University Center. Join us for this Wellness Event to learn how you can be well and safe.

Discover campus wellness resources available to students, including nutrition, outdoor activities, mental health services, addiction prevention & support, fitness, and many others on Wednesday, October 20 from 10 AM – 1 PM on Centennial Plaza (if rain, RUC Tech Pride Room).

Councilwoman Free Virtual/In-Person Film Screening, Oct. 25

Councilwoman follows the story of Carmen Castillo behind the scenes of politics. Politicians aren’t often full-time hotel housekeepers, union members, grandmothers, and immigrants working service sector jobs, but Carmen Castillo changes that when she wins a seat on the City Council in Providence, Rhode Island. This event is sponsored by the Women’s Center. The screening begins on Monday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. virtually or in-person in Johnson Hall 103. Jeff Brown from The Biz Foundry will be leading this session on how to make your idea come to life. Business Model Canvas is a great tool for you to learn if your idea or product is viable, how to identify your customers, find any issues, and give yourself and your team the best chance for success!

The Eagle Works judging rubric is based off Business Model Canvas, so if you’re thinking about competing, this workshop is essential!
