Opening Saturday, May 6: Material Echoes
Material Echoes, an exhibition featuring work by Assistant Professor of Fiber Art, Rena Wood, opens Saturday, May 6, 2023 and will run through August 2, 2023, at TN Tech, Appalachian Center for Craft in Joe L Evins Gallery at 1560 Craft Center Drive, Smithville, TN 37166.
Material Echoes is an exhibition of fiber art by artist Rena Wood. Employing vintage textiles and traditional handwork techniques, Wood creates artwork that honors textile histories and past makers. Each piece in the exhibition has been made and re-made, constructed and re-constructed over the past 4 years, to investigate the essential role that memory plays in life. ‘Material Echoes’ relates to familiar textiles and patterns, reminding us of people and places that we may have forgotten. It refers to the reimagining of the handwork process, over and over again, to try and find meaning through obsessive making.
