We are recruiting for a new Tennessee Tech faculty/staff pool team! League play will take place on Sundays, beginning at 2:00 p.m., at STIX. The venue is family-friendly, smoke-free indoors, offers a great food menu, and is a safe environment. All skill levels welcome. We need 5-8 players per team. Jacob Turner is the new Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations
University Development welcomes Jacob Turner as the new Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations!
Jacob most recently served as the Co-Owner and Vice President of Development for Fitec International, LLC. He oversaw business operations, including sales, logistics, finance, and budgeting, ensuring seamless processes. He led all aspects of import and export operations, maintained relationships with 18 international factories, and navigated tariff changes and global shipping challenges. His two largest client relationships were with Academy Sports and Walmart.
Earlier in his career, he served as a sales representative for BSN Savannah, where he cultivated, sustained, and generated new business opportunities in Coastal Georgia.
Jacob is an Air Force veteran and received his Bachelor of Science in Sports Management with a minor in Coaching from Kennesaw State University.

Shelley Wiley Joins the Center for Career Development
The Center for Career Development recently added Shelley Wiley as the new Assistant Director of Experiential Education to it’s professional staff. Shelley joins the Career Development staff after serving for three years in the Tennessee Tech Launchpad. Shelley will focus her efforts on student employment issues related to Cooperative Education, Internships and Career Counseling while also serving as a general team member. Please congratulate Shelley on her new position!

Mitchell County Volunteer Resource Center Donation Drive
The College of Education and Human Sciences Student Ambassadors are raising donations for the Mitchell County Volunteer Resource Center for the East Tennessee/North Carolina victims affected by Hurricane Helene in September. We are taking donations now until April 25th. Please bring donations to the Student Success Center in TJ Farr.

Chemistry Student Wins Poster Award at National Conference
Mitchell Swann, a junior chemistry major, recently won the Outstanding Student Poster Award for Exemplary Research from the American Chemical Society (ACS) Division of Physical Chemistry at the recent ACS Spring national meeting. Mitchell conducts research with Dr. Ranil Gurusinghe on spectroscopic and computational studies of molecular planarity, confirmational structures, and quantum tunneling phenomena in styrene derivates. Congratulations to Michell on his research and this accomplishment!

Ph.D. Student Jasmine Reynolds Awarded Prestigious NBCC Minority Fellowship
Jasmine Reynolds, a Ph.D. student in Counseling and Supervision at Tennessee Tech University, has been awarded the prestigious Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) scholarship, administered by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). This federally funded program has supported over 400 doctoral- and master’s-level students since 2012, fostering diversity within the counseling profession. As an MFP Fellow, Reynolds will contribute to the field through research, education, and service, helping to expand mental health access in underserved communities while advancing innovative counseling initiatives.

Chemistry Student Sydney Decatur Selected for ACS Student Leadership Award
The Department of Chemistry would like to recognize chemistry major Sydney Decatur for receiving the prestigious American Chemical Society (ACS) 2025 Student Leadership Award. She is one of 15 students from around the world selected by ACS to receive this award. Recipients are selected based on their leadership skills and they possess the potential to become future leaders within the ACS professional society. She attended the invitation-only ACS Leadership Institute last weekend in Houston, TX.

Tech’s Dr. Jeremy Wendt named to statewide Educator Preparation Advisory Council
The College of Education congratulates Dr. Jeremy Wendt, professor and chair of the Department of Curriculum & Instruction, on being named to the statewide Educator Preparation Advisory Council convened by the Tennessee State Board of Education.
The council will work with the state to strengthen policy and data reporting on educator preparation, including the annual Tennessee Educator Preparation Report Card. The group met earlier this month and is set to meet again in the spring.
