    Black History Month 2023 Events

    Join the Tennessee Tech Multicultural Affairs Office, Center for Student Engagement, SGA, Diversity & Inclusion Office, History Department, Commission on the Status of Blacks (CSB), Human Ecology, The Women’s Center and the Music department in celebrating and honoring Black History Month.

    The events include a Daily Trivia & Prize Give away;
    February 2, Jonathan Blanchard 11am in RUC Tech Pride Room, “History of Hip Hop”, and 6pm in RUC Multipurpose, Concert “The Block Party”; February 7, Anthony Ray Hinton, 6pm, Derryberry Auditorium who will share his story of being wrongly convicted and exonerated after 30 years through the efforts of the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI); February 9, RUC Tech Pride Room, Jeff Hobbs speaks on “Cherokee Freedmen” with Associate Professor Troy Smith; February 19, Gospel Extravaganza, Location TBD; Feb. 21st, 11am Tech Pride Room “Racing Through Time” Student led History Exhibit, and 5:30pm RUC Multipurpose Room, Soul Food Night; Feb. 22, 7:30pm Derryberry Hall Auditorium, Center Stage Event with Ebone Bell; February 26, 5:30pm IMPACT Banquet, Leslie Town Center honoring Mary Alice McClellan and Lori Jackson Stode (tickets required); February 27, 6pm, RUC Tech Pride Room, Paint Night with Marc Burnett, alumnus and former VP of Student Affairs.

  • Mandatory Training – Title VI

    All Tennessee Tech employees must complete annual Title VI training by April 10, 2023. This training can be accessed in Tech Express by locating the red tab for Title VI training on the Campus Resources Card.

    Completion of this training is a component of employee performance evaluations. In addition, failure to complete the training by April 10, 2023, will result in the termination of access to Tennessee Tech computer resources.

  • Rubrics

    Rubrics

    Join the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) on Tuesday, January 31st at 11 AM for a workshop on rubrics. Rubrics are a best practice for communicating criteria and achievement levels of assignments to students in both online and on-ground courses. Well-developed rubrics show alignment between assignment criteria and overall module/unit and course learning objectives. Before the assignment, rubrics help students understand the connections between the “what” and “why” of learning. After the assignment, rubrics also help instructors provide quicker, more consistent feedback to students, often helping answer a common student question: why did I receive the grade I received? In this session, participants will hear from Tennessee Tech faculty who utilize rubrics and see examples of digital rubrics in iLearn.  Register below and contact the CITL with questions at citl@tntech.edu.

  • Summer 2023 Undergraduate Graduation Application Deadline

    The deadline to apply for graduation for Summer 2023 is February 1. If you intend to complete your degree in Summer 2023 and have not yet applied for graduation, you can apply directly from your Degree Works audit! You can access your degree audit by clicking on the DegWork link in Tech Express.

    Employee Appreciation Event! Thursday, January 26th — Basketball at the HOOP

    Get ready for an evening of fun as we celebrate employees who make Tennessee Tech an awesome place to be!

    On Thursday, January 26th, employees can present their Eagle Card/ID at a table in the Hooper Eblen Center Lobby to obtain tickets to a doubleheader of Tech basketball. Each employee will be given the number of complimentary tickets in their immediate family.  You will also receive a voucher to redeem for a drink and popcorn OR a drink and hotdog at any concession stand.

    Games are at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. and you can attend one or both games.   The men’s game at 6 p.m. will be televised on ESPNEWS.  Appropriate annual leave will need to be taken, and don’t forget supervisor permission, but what a good reason to ask!

  • Chemistry Student Claudia McDavid Selected for ACS Student Leadership Award

    Chemistry Student Claudia McDavid Selected for ACS Student Leadership Award

    The Department of Chemistry would like to recognize Claudia McDavid from Kingsport, TN for receiving the 2023 Student Leadership award from the American Chemical Society (ACS). Claudia is a junior pursuing dual degrees in Chemistry and Biology, and minors in Sociology and Honors. She is a peer mentor for the Honors program and the Secretary of the Tech chapter of the Student Members of the American Chemical Society (ACS). Claudia is one of the 14 students selected by ACS to receive this award. Recipients of this award are selected from competitive pools of students from United States and international universities based on their leadership skills and extracurricular activities. The students selected possess the skills and potential to become future leaders within the ACS professional society.

    As part of her selection Claudia attended the ACS Leadership Institute in Atlanta, GA in January. The Leadership Institute is an invitation-only conference that allows students to attend workshops and network with other student leaders from around the world, as well as ACS leaders from local sections, technical divisions, and the ACS national board.

  • Audit or Review Reports Received from External Agencies 1/23

    To comply with State Audit directives and Tennessee Tech Policy #130, any audit or review reports received from external agencies should be forwarded to Internal Audit when they are received throughout the year. If you or your department have received any audit or review reports from external agencies during FY 2022-23 that have not already been forwarded to Internal Audit, please send them to Deanna Metts (dmetts@tntech.edu) at this time. As you receive reports in the future, please send them to the same address.

    Please note – this request does not apply to accreditation reports.

  • General Complaint Reporting – Spring 2023

    General Complaint Reporting

    In addition to the Fraud, Waste, or Abuse reporting form, Tennessee Tech also has a form on Internal Audit’s website for confidentially reporting complaints about accounting, internal control, auditing matters, code of conduct, discrimination/harassment/retaliation, and other issues that are NOT fraud, waste, or abuse. Complainants remain COMPLETELY ANONYMOUS to Internal Audit unless the last section of the form is completed. General complaints received on this form are routed to appropriate campus departments for follow-up.

    The form can be submitted online or completed, printed, and mailed to Internal Audit, PO Box 5154, Cookeville, TN 38505.

    Do you know a student deserving recognition? The Division of Student Affairs is requesting nominations for the Student Affairs Student Spotlight. This project aims to highlight Golden Eagles students who excel both in and outside the classroom. Selected students will be featured in a Tech Times article and a Student Affairs Instagram post.
