The blood supply in Putnam County is at a critically low level right now. Supplies are desperately needed! For every unit of blood donated by one person, three lives can be benefitted! In order to help alleviate this demand, Alpha Phi Omega at Tennessee Tech is sponsoring a Blood Drive on the MAIN QUAD from 10 am to 4 pm on Wednesday, February 10.

Tornadoes can occur any time of the year, but usually occur in the spring and summer. Considered nature’s most violent and erratic storms, they are formed by severe thunderstorms, and consist of whirling winds of up to 300 miles per hour. Tornadoes can sweep through an area, causing serious damage and destruction. In addition to injuries and structural damage, electrical shorts, gas leaks, etc., may create fires or other hazards. Everyone must understand the terminology associated with tornado safety.
What is the difference between a Tornado WATCH and a Tornado WARNING?
A Tornado WATCH is issued by the NOAA Storm Prediction Center meteorologists who watch the weather 24/7 across the entire U.S. for weather conditions that are favorable for tornadoes and severe weather. A watch can cover parts of a state or several states. Watch and prepare for severe weather and stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio to know when warnings are issued.
A Tornado WARNING is issued by your local NOAA National Weather Service Forecast Office meteorologists who watch the weather 24/7 over a designated area. This means a tornado has been reported by spotters or indicated by radar and there is a serious threat to life and property to those in the path of the tornado. A tornado warning indicates that you should ACT NOW to find safe shelter! A warning can cover parts of counties or several counties in the path of danger.
Please take the time now to become familiar with shelter areas located in your facility. Should a Tornado WARNING be issued, seek immediate shelter inside a building at your designated shelter area. If you have questions, please contact your respective Building Coordinator.

Tennessee Tech’s 2020 IMPACT publication recently won the Gold Award in the CASE District III Fundraising – Annual Reports and Fund Reports Publication category! The CASE (Council for the Advancement and Support of Education) District III awards recognize the very best in advancement across the southeast. The 2020 edition of IMPACT highlighted the areas of focus for the 2020 “I Heart Tech Students” Campaign: Tech’s Office of Multicultural Affairs, Accessible Education Center, Counseling Center, Eagle Assistance Grant and Food Pantry. Thank you to everyone who helped make this publication a success! The 2021 “I Heart Tech Students” Campaign launches in just one week, so keep an eye out for more information.
The Tennessee Tech University Archives’s newest exhibit is now open in the Multicultural Affairs’s case on the top floor of the University Center! “What Affects One Group Affects All of Us”: Black Student Activism at Tennessee Tech highlights the range of Black student activism from 1968 to 2020. Students have pushed for the university and the broader community to respect the humanity, needs, and culture of Black students and people. The exhibit displays photographs of events and clippings from publications written by Black students.
For those who can’t attend in person or who have low-vision, the posters for the exhibit and a hyperlinked list of the items on display are available here.
The exhibit is part of the Office of Multicultural Affairs’s celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Leona Lusk Officer Black Cultural Center. The last two digital exhibits for the anniversary can be browsed here. Keep your eyes out later this spring for another digital exhibit on the history of Black students and employees at Tech! THE IRIS REVIEW, Tennessee Tech’s literary arts magazine, is now accepting submissions for our 2021 annual issue, due out at the end of the Spring semester. We accept fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, art, and photography. Our submission deadline is February 28. Additional info, including how to submit, may be found at http://bit.ly/theirisreview.
