Rural Reimagined recognizes Dr. Jeremy Blair, a Professor of Art Education, for his Cameraless Photography Workshop in Historic Rugby.  Through this workshop, participants experimented with cameraless photography methods by creating botanical photograms in a darkroom. Dr. Blair taught participants basic darkroom techniques, how to forage outside for materials, and methods for creating stunning black and white photograms without a camera. He states, “I taught this workshop at the Learning Center in Rugby and transformed their furnace room into a darkroom. I then introduced a technique called Cameraless Photography or Photograms where participants forage for items outside, place them on photosensitive paper in the darkroom, expose them with a flashlight, and develop them through a traditional darkroom process.” The workshop was ideal for beginners and explored historic photography methods inspired by the Victorian era. The Rural Reimagined Club and TAB is proud to announce part two of our Rural Journeys Speaker Series for this semester. Our second virtual conversation will be on Tuesday, October 27th at 3pm. Dr. Catherine Jones and Casey Garrison will both be speaking about their experience in rural education.

Dr. Jones is the current Principal at Prescott South Elementary (PSES), a Tennessee STEM Designated School. She has been working with STEM practices since 2012 when PSES participated in a major STEM grant partnering with the Oakley STEM Center and Prescott South Middle School (PSMS).

Casey Garrison spent her first 16 years as a middle school science educator and assistant principal at PSMS, where she developed and implemented additional STEAM-specific encore courses based on student inventories, resulting in PSMS earning their TN STEM School Designation. This year, Casey is Capshaw Elementary’s Assistant Principal.

Did you know that nearly one million women alive today have been shot or shot at by an intimate partner? The presence of a gun dramatically increases lethality in domestic violence situations.

Please join Project Awaken & the Women’s Center on Tuesday, October 27th at 5:30 PM via Zoom for a free event on the intersection of gun violence and domestic violence. Do you get nervous when you have to make presentations? Are you never sure how to start? Do you just want to improve the skills you have? This workshop will help you prepare for the Idea Challenge on Nov. 11 (more details on the Eagle Works website!), and teach skills that will be useful in class and career! Being able to give a short elevator pitch about yourself or your idea could make a difference in your future!

We’ll follow this session up with two VIRTUAL practice pitch sessions for the Idea Challenge, one on Wednesday, Nov. 4 and the other Monday, Nov. 9. Both will be at 6 p.m. – link coming soon! If you plan on competing, we highly suggest you attend at least one!

Come hear Ms. Kate Nicewicz, the Director of the MBA program, speak on the importance of travelling and intercultural awareness. She will also talk about trips taken by students in the International Experience course in the MBA program. This event will take place on October 22nd from 11 to 12 (dead hour) in Johnson Hall room 304. Boxed lunches will be provided. This event is sponsored by Eagle’s Flight. Join the Peer Empowerment Program (PEP) in raising awareness of domestic violence TODAY (October 22) by participating in National #WearPurpleDay.
