Week of Welcome and the start of the fall semester are right around the corner. Want to help make sure students have a fun and wonderful first week? Volunteer to help during several Week of Welcome events. The Student Engagement team is looking for employees to assist during three events: Live Team Trivia on Friday night, August 11, Club Golden Eagle on Sunday night, August 14, and Mix & Mingle on Tuesday evening, August 16. Please consider registering for a shift! Working the events will be a great way to welcome new students and welcome back returners, and an excellent opportunity to get to know other Tech colleagues.

The Center for Manufacturing Research is excited to announce the final presentations of the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) students. This REU site is funded by NSF and is titled “Secure and Privacy-Preserving Cyber-Physical Systems Software and Hardware Approaches”. Ten students who have been conducting collaborative research with TN Tech faculty and students will be presenting the culmination of their summer work. This event is Friday, July 29 from 9:30 – 12:00. The conference will take place on Friday and Saturday, January 13 and 14, 2023 on Tennessee Tech’s campus.

Join us for the upcoming Women in Higher Education Tennessee (WHET) workshop that will take place on TTU’s campus on Friday, August 12. TTU is honored to host the event in the new Sciences Building. This gives us a chance to showcase our campus to other women across the state. The program begins at 10:00 and concludes at 2:00. The ‘timely’ theme of the event is “Leading Out of a Crisis” with keynote speaker Dr. Lori Bruce. Additional speakers include Susan Wells J.D., and Cigi England. There is no registration fee to attend and a catered lunch is provided. This workshop is open to the entire campus community including faculty, staff, administrators and students. ROOTS Camp: Uncovering Your Botanical History & Exploring Natural History Collections
For rising 8th graders and up. Explore your family history, plants, and herbaria collections through this fun camp! We will work with TTU faculty members and Hollister Herbarium staff to identify and preserve plant specimens that are important to our own personal histories. Rural Reimagined recognizes and congratulates Tavian Dodd, Chandler Hendrick, Brain Kemp, Bryce McDonald, and Grant Qualls from the Computer Science Program on presenting their Capstone project at Tennessee Tech’s Engineering Expo. Their project was titled “ORNL Weather Retrieval Tool,” and the main goal of this project was to make an application that can directly access the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) archives and pull the requested data for the user. Their system would allow users “to download data from one or more weather stations” and solve the delay in weather data retrieval that ORNL is experiencing. Congrats to this team for their hard work, which directly impacts our rural areas, and successfully completing their Capstone.
