    On November 5, the Alumni Association will recognize the following 2022 alumni award recipients:

      • Outstanding Young Alumnus Award: Ron H. R. Johnson, `08 English
      • Outstanding Service Award: Frank Omiyale, `08 marketing
      • Outstanding Philanthropy Award: J. Elizabeth Hendrix, `68 secondary education
    • Distinguished Alumni Award: Dr. Ellen J. Neufeldt, `91 marketing

    Annual Civil & Environmental Engineering Homecoming Pig Roast

    The Civil & Environmental Engineering Department is hosting its 11th Annual Homecoming Pig Roast in collaboration with our ASCE chapter. We encourage all students & alumni to come out for food and fellowship!

    The Pig Roast will be the Friday of Homecoming weekend, November 4th. Dinner will be served from 5:30-7:30pm at the East part of the stadium just outside of the Steel Bridge shop.

    We will have cornhole and ASCE will be auctioning off some of their old trophies!

    Alex McDonald Joins Rural Reimagined as Graduate Assistant

    Rural Reimagined (RR) is excited to announce and welcome Alex McDonald to The Center for Rural Innovation (TCRI) team. Alex is a graduate student working towards a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She assists TCRI with inferential statistics and evaluates the impact of community economic interventions within our service region. Regarding her internship, Alex says, “I am excited to be a part of a team working to help communities and to have the opportunity to put all my stats knowledge into practice. I’m grateful for the opportunity to get to work with this department and learn more about economic development.” Rural communities will always benefit from the meaningful contributions from various occupational and vocational fields. Like Alex, Rural Reimagined encourages other students to partner with us as we serve our rural communities in valuable and unique ways. Thank you, Alex! Wings up!

    Please join us: Garrett Hongo author events

    Tennessee Tech welcomes poet, essayist, and audio writer Garrett Hongo for two events on Thursday, October 13, 2022. Hongo will share “The Mirror Diary,” a lecture about the invention of an ancestral writer, beginning at 1:30 p.m. in TJ Farr Room 308. He will read from The Perfect Sound: A Memoir in Stereo, at the Backdoor Playhouse starting at 7:00 p.m. in a free event open to everyone. These opportunities are sponsored by Center Stage and the TTU English Department.

    Garrett Hongo is the author of three collections of poetry, including The River of Heaven, which received the Lamont Poetry Prize and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. The Perfect Sound: A Memoir in Stereo is his most recent book of essays, about listening to music, sound engineering, and his Hawai’ian and Japanese-American identity. He writes regularly for SoundStage! Ultra.

    Free Improv Show hosted by B.I.T.

    Looking for something to do on a Friday night? B.I.T., has you covered! We are hosting our second show of the semester on October 14th, 2022, at 8:00PM, at the Backdoor Playhouse. We do short form improv, similar to “who’s line is this?” where the troupe will perform games based on audience suggestions. We are also an open, no audition troupe so if you like what you see at the show or if this sounds of interest to you feel free to join us at practice anytime! We pride ourselves on being extremely low commitment and our belief in creative expression within the troupe.

Don’t miss the LAST Co-op Meetup of the Fall 2022 semester on Thursday, October 6, in Roaden University Center Multipurpose Room beginning at 11 a.m. New guidelines, which went into effect Fall 2022 for engineering student enrollment, will be shared.

    The Co-op Meetup will explain the eligibility guidelines for enrolling in the Cooperative Education Program, which applies to ALL students.  You may review the updated eligibility guidelines at: https://www.tntech.edu/career/students/co-op/eligibility.php

  • 13th Annual Race for the Golden Helix 5K is October 29!

    13th Annual Race for the Golden Helix 5K is October 29!

    Registration is now OPEN for the 13th Annual Race for the Golden Helix 5K open road race on October 29 starting at 9:00 am! The race raises funds for the chemistry student organizations, the Cookeville RAM Clinic and TTU Foundation Scholarships.

    All participants that REGISTER by MIDNIGHT on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12, receive a guaranteed T-shirt! The cost is $28 for faculty, staff and the local community. Thanks to SGA SOLO funds, registration is FREE for ALL TTU STUDENTS (Code: TTUStudent).

    Student volunteers are also needed for a variety of tasks in the days preceding the race as well as the race itself. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up on the race website.

    Faculty, staff and members of the community may also donate to the race to support our student organizations and scholarships. All donations are tax-deductable and are greatly appreciated. Donations are accepted on the race website.

    School to Industry Presentation by Dr. Chioma Onwuchekwa- Oct 5 at 6 p.m.

    Join the Student Members of the American Chemical Society (ACS) as we celebrate the 95th anniversary of the Women Chemists Committee (WCC) and host Chioma Onwuchekwa, Ph.D. as she discusses her journey through school to industry. The presentation will be on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. in Laboratory Science Commons 1211. Chioma obtained her doctorate from Tennessee Tech in Environmental Sciences-Chemistry in Spring 2021 and now works as an Environmental Strategy Specialist at Cummins. WCC has a mission to attract, retain, develop, promote, and advocate for women to positively impact diversity, equity, and inclusion in ACS and the chemistry profession. Refreshments will be served.
