    Steven Dunn, Author to Speak Nov. 5

    Novelist Steven Dunn will be a Guest Speaker Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. in Bell Hall Auditorium. Also featured will be special guest Leonard Tucker. A book-signing will follow the event. Dunn is a Whiting Award winner who was shortlisted for Granta Magazine’s Best of Young American Novelists. He’s the author of three novels: Potted Meat (Tarpaulin Sky, 2016), water & power (Tarpaulin Sky, 2018), and Tannery Bay (FC2/University of Alabama Press, 2024), which is co-authored with Katie Jean Shinkle.

    Potted Meat is a 2017 Colorado Book Award Finalist, VICE Magazine’s Best Books of 2016, and adapted into a short film by Foothills Productions called The Usual Route. The Usual Route has played at the LA International Film Festival, Houston International Film Festival, and others.

    Tennessee Tech faculty are invited to “Making Your Expertise Discoverable: Building an Effective HALO Profile” at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 3, in Roaden University Center 246. Michael Aikens, Associate Vice President for Research and Economic Development, will host this workshop on using HALO to showcase research, facilities, and capabilities to industry, government agencies, and potential collaborators. Build a profile that opens doors to research opportunities. Lunch will be provided!

Learn from Téa Phillips, founder of MetaFlex Glove and former Eagle Works contestant, whose company has raised more than $800,000. Whether you’re preparing for the $1,000 Idea Challenge on Nov. 10 or simply want to improve your pitch, this hands-on session will help you present ideas with confidence!

    Take a break and enjoy a FREE cup of coffee while speaking with recruiters from Toppan Packaging on Monday, Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the RUC’s Swoops Food Court.

    Toppan creates and manufactures sustainable packaging solutions across the food, retail and medical sectors, with applications including snacks, condiments, healthcare items, prepared meals, fresh produce, coffee and pet food.

    Computer science alumni, faculty, students and friends are invited to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Department of Computer Science on Nov. 6, 5-8:30 p.m., at the Putnam County Convention Center. Registration is $40 and helps support the Boshart & Kosa Academic Excellence Scholarship.
