    Please join us on Thursday, Sept. 16th at 11 am in HH 214 for Nontraditional Student Organization (NTSO) meeting. Nontraditional students are defined as being independent for financial aid purposes, having one or more dependents, being a single caregiver, not having a traditional high school diploma, delaying postsecondary enrollment, attending school part-time, and/or being employed full time (U.S. Dept. of Education, 2017).  The meeting is also available through Zoom.     Writer Tamara Winfrey-Harris’ presentation, “Serena: Superwoman as Every (black) woman”, digs into the way mainstream media depict black women to reveal common stereotypes and discusses the need to change the way black women are portrayed. This Center Stage event is cohosted by the Women’s Center with the Department of English’s Creative Writing program and Multicultural Affairs.     Friday Focus sessions are designed to provide just-in-time resources and information for faculty throughout the semester. Each session focuses on diverse resources, tools, or programs available to support faculty and/or student success. This week’s session will be presented by faculty and staff from the Volpe Library and Auxiliary Services. Participants will leave the session with a better understanding of options to assist with textbook affordability and ways to make the book order process more seamless.

    Project AWAKEN is Ending

    Project AWAKEN’s Office of Violence Against Women grant comes to an end Tuesday, August 31, 2021. As such, Project AWAKEN will no longer be on campus to provide events, trainings nor advocacy services. It has been a pleasure to serve the Tech campus!

    If you want to stay involved in addressing power-based violence on campus and in the community, the Peer Empower Program (PEP) is a great way to get involved. Contact Nicole Cook (nacook@tntech.edu) to learn more. If you or someone you care about needs support services, help is available 24/7 through Genesis House (1-800-707-5197). Students can also seek help from the Counseling Center at (931) 372-3331.

    It’s on all of us to continue to support survivors and to stop power-based violence from happening in our community!

  • Films on Demand Ending; AVON Now Available

    We have made a change in our library video collections:

      • Effective immediately, we have access to AVON (Academic Video Online) via our Databases A-Z list:

    Access to Films on Demand (FOD) ends October 30, 2021.

    AVON is a collection of over 66,000 videos across multiple disciplines.  It is searchable and browsable with filters for subject, publisher, language, release date, etc.  AVON content is also discoverable in EagleSearch. We made this change because FOD usage has been declining, and AVON has more titles.

    If you use a FOD video in your class, you will have access only until October 30, 2021. Check AVON for the same video or an alternative to use instead.  You may also look in Kanopy and request that we purchase a video at $150 for one year of access, but please check AVON before requesting a Kanopy video to avoid duplication.  Contact Sharon Holderman if you have any questions!

  • Chemistry TAs Needed

    The Department of Chemistry at TTU is seeking students to serve as TAs for the upcoming semester. In order to serve as a TA, students must have: 1) Completed the course you wish to serve as a TA for (CHEMs 1010, 1020, 1110, 1120, 3010, 3020) with a “B” or better and 2) have a GPA of 3.0 or above. You must also be eligible to work in the US.

    If you meet the above conditions and are interested in this opportunity, please apply using the following link: TA application.

    Students who are selected as TAs will receive hourly compensation, and will generally be assigned one three-hour lab section a week, grading duties, and potentially be asked to attend weekly meetings regarding upcoming laboratory activities.
