School of Environmental Studies (SOES) Seminar Series: Dr. Loren D. Hayes, University of TN – Chattanooga

“Sexual differences in a plural breeder: Sociality and conflict between males and females”
Why do animals live in groups? Are the benefits and costs of group-living similar for males and females? These questions have been at the core of my research program and the focus of my 20-year study of the plurally breeding rodent, Octodon degus.
My talk will focus on how our understanding of degu sociality has evolved over 20 years and has led us to think that degu sociality is characterized by considerable sexual conflict.
