The TTU Trombone Choir is proud to present our spring distance video project with Center Stage Guest Steve Wiest. Wiest is a world renowned jazz trombonist, composer, arranger, and author. He collaborated with us to produce three videos. The first is “Funk This!” by Dr. Joshua Hauser and features members of the Trombone Choir and Dr. Colin Hill, drums. The second is “Flat Black,” by JJ Johnson, arranged by Wiest. The final composition is a new piece by Wiest that was commissioned for Trombones at Tech titled “Intergalactic Haus of Trombone.” Although the original intent was to have performed all of these live during Steve’s residency by our students, we felt that it was important to recognize the many professional musicians throughout the US who have been largely underemployed due to COVID and invited 6 professional trombonists from Nashville, Knoxville, Boston, and NYC to join us for this final selection.
