In 1984, Andy Rittenhouse<\/strong>,\u00a0\u201889 mechanical engineering,\u00a0was a freshman redshirt\u00a0football player exhausted by\u00a0three strenuous practices a\u00a0day in the August heat.<\/p>\n

Things started looking up for\u00a0him when girls arrived on campus.\u00a0He and a girlfriend attended\u00a0a student fellowship meeting,\u00a0where a pretty girl talked\u00a0about finding God. Andy was\u00a0mesmerized. He broke up with\u00a0his then-girlfriend to chase Paige\u00a0<\/strong>Goss<\/strong>, \u201889 industrial engineering.<\/p>\n

Paige joined a sorority and\u00a0became a TTU cheerleader.\u00a0Andy got playing time on the\u00a0football field. He said it took\u00a0effort to pay attention to the\u00a0game and not his \u201csweet honey\u201d\u00a0on the sidelines. He convinced\u00a0team managers to bring her water\u00a0from the field. Paige would mail\u00a0Andy cards with jokes about his\u00a0name on the envelope: Andy\u00a0Outhouse, Andy Doghouse\u00a0and Andy Rottenshack.<\/p>\n

Like any young couple,\u00a0the pair had arguments.\u00a0Andy would complain to his\u00a0roommate, Antonio Sinkfield<\/strong>,\u00a0\u201888 marketing, who always\u00a0asked Andy if he loved Paige.\u00a0When Andy admitted he did,\u00a0Antonio told him to calm down,\u00a0apologize and go kiss Paige.<\/p>\n

Andy was named first team\u00a0academic all-American in football,\u00a0but he says the highlight of his\u00a0time at Tech was meeting his\u00a0\u201cprecious little Scott County girl.\u201d<\/p>\n

Today, they live in Knoxville\u00a0and have seven children: six\u00a0boys and one girl, the oldest an\u00a0engineering major at Tech.<\/p>\n

Paige and Andy shared this\u00a0<\/em>story during this year\u2019s Alumni\u00a0<\/em>Association Lovebirds competition\u00a0<\/em>and were named one of two\u00a0<\/em>grand-prize winners.
