Justin Stacy<\/strong>, \u201905 mechanical\u00a0engineering, \u201907 M.S., \u201910\u00a0Ph.D., and Autumn Ayers<\/strong>, \u201904\u00a0education, \u201910 M.A. advanced\u00a0studies in teaching and learning,\u00a0met their freshman year and have\u00a0been together ever since.<\/p>\n

An important part of their\u00a0story centers around a particular\u00a0tree on campus \u2013 the magnolia in\u00a0front of Henderson Hall.\u00a0The tree seems to belong to\u00a0many Tech couples; it is covered\u00a0in carvings of initials and years.\u00a0Justin and Autumn met there\u00a0often to walk to the grill and stood\u00a0there during goodnight kisses.<\/p>\n

They have returned to the tree for\u00a0many of the important moments\u00a0of their 15-year relationship.\u00a0In 2002, they stopped at\u00a0the tree for shade while walking\u00a0their four-legged family member\u00a0around campus. A year later,\u00a0Justin asked Autumn to marry\u00a0him there. In 2008, Autumn\u00a0told Justin he was going to be a\u00a0father under its branches. When\u00a0they moved back to Cookeville\u00a0in 2010, they introduced their\u00a0second child to the special spot\u00a0during a summer stroll.<\/p>\n

That beautiful, tall magnolia\u00a0tree with glossy leaves and\u00a0fragrant blossoms has been a\u00a0staple of their relationship at\u00a0Tennessee Tech and their life\u00a0since.<\/p>\n

Justin and Autumn shared this\u00a0<\/em>story during this year\u2019s Alumni\u00a0<\/em>Association Lovebirds competition\u00a0<\/em>and were named one of two grandprize\u00a0<\/em>winners.
