{"id":1250,"date":"2018-03-14T15:58:29","date_gmt":"2018-03-14T15:58:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.tntech.edu\/visions\/?p=1250"},"modified":"2018-03-14T20:27:57","modified_gmt":"2018-03-14T20:27:57","slug":"tech-launches-new-master-of-accountancy-program-in-fall-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.tntech.edu\/visions\/tech-launches-new-master-of-accountancy-program-in-fall-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Tech launches new master of accountancy program in fall 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tennessee Tech business graduates looking to further their education and get help with the Certified Public Accountant exam can now do that at their alma mater.<\/p>\n<p>A Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program, the first and only program of its kind in the state, was approved by the Tech Board of Trustees and launched this past fall.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor Thompson, who recently earned an accounting degree at Tech, is one of the first students who signed up for the MAcc.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I found out the program was happening, I was happy to know I could continue the professional relationship with my professors. They have become mentors to me, and I couldn\u2019t ask for a better faculty,\u201d Thompson said. \u201cWith the curriculum, it increases the chances of passing the CPA exam as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe creation and delivery of the MAcc is in line with our strategic priorities to create new programs of study that serve the needs of business, increase student and faculty engagement with the professional community, and provide graduates with a wide variety of relevant skills and abilities,\u201d said Thomas Payne, Dean of the College of Business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe that this program is a game-changer for our program,\u201d said Richard Rand, chairman of the accounting department. \u201cAdding a master\u2019s degree to our already successful and highly respected undergraduate accounting program leverages our capabilities and allows us to offer a full range of professional education and preparation to our students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rand also believes the program gives Tech students access to a broader job market and raises the visibility of the program.<\/p>\n<p>Tech\u2019s Master of Accountancy is a 30-hour program with a one-year or two-year track. It was designed to allow students to simultaneously earn a master\u2019s degree and sit for the CPA exam.
