Dean Carothers ’75 documented Tech for more than 30 years

After more than 30 years of service to his alma mater, Dean Carothers, industrial technology ’75, retired in early January. Carothers has been one of the university’s photographers since 1979.

Dean Carothers and his camera have recorded most of Tech’s recent history. He served five of the university’s 10 presidents, documented the construction of seven campus buildings and five Ohio Valley Conference athletic titles, and shot the photo of the Baja SAE team that appeared on a Wheaties cereal box. He and his staff of photographers have taken photos of thousands of graduates at about 100 commencement ceremonies over the past 34 years.

After all his years at Tech, Carothers and his wife, Carol, retired to spend more time with their grandchildren who live outside Chattanooga.
