Editor’s Note: Change to Tech Times guidelines

The response to a recent Tech Times submission caused us to review the posted submission guidelines in light of both the State of Tennessee’s Campus Free Speech Protection Act and Tech’s Free Speech on Campus policy (policy #007, available at https://www.tntech.edu/policies).

As a result, the guidelines (https://blogs.tntech.edu/techtimes/guidelines/) have been revised to reflect the university’s commitment to giving students and faculty the broadest possible latitude to speak, write, listen, challenge, learn and discuss any issue.

We have also added a disclaimer to Tech Times alerting readers about user submitted content, and have modified the Tech Times email that goes out on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Submissions on behalf of university offices will be at the top of the email in a section called “University Notices.” These notices will continue to be edited for clarity, grammar and university style usage.

All other submissions will be in a section called “Reader Submissions.” These submissions will not be edited. The campus community member who submitted the item is responsible for legality, accuracy, timeliness and reliability of the material.

The university calendar section will remain, but the “In Case You Missed It” section will no longer appear in the emails.
