The construction between Pennebaker and Johnson halls that has been going on throughout this summer is nearing completion.

Early portions of this project installed an ADA accessibile walkway and ramp to Pennebaker Hall between A and B streets, and fixed a water issue with Johnson Hall. The space between the buildings will now be able to be used as a botanical garden once again. Helen’s Garden will be re-established as an outdoor classroom and native plant arboretum, with lighting and crushed-stone paths.

Throughout the project, University Facilities has been in communication with the family of Helen Stoops Cross, a TTU business graduate and 27-year veteran of the Department of Biology until her untimely death in 1997. Department friends established the garden as a living shrine to a woman who was known for her kindness and infectious smile.
