Welcome to Tennessee Tech University!<\/strong> <\/span><\/em><\/h1>\n

For those of you who are going to be graduate students here at Tech, this post if chock-full of resources to help guide you along the path of graduate school. <\/span><\/p>\n

First of all, make sure to come to the <\/span>New Graduate Student Orientation<\/b> on August 15<\/span>th<\/span> in Johnson Hall Auditorium Room 103 (1pm to 4:30pm). <\/span><\/p>\n

There, you will not only be able to meet fellow grad students in the program, but you will also meet the faculty and staff who will help support you on your journey. The orientation is designed to help familiarize you to campus and academic resources as well as Cookeville as a whole. The following information covers all of the important links and reminders for new graduate students.<\/span><\/p>\n

Checklist and Reminders for New Students <\/b><\/h2>\n

Things to Do<\/span><\/i><\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. Financial Aid:<\/span> Make sure all paperwork is in order.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Graduate Assistantship<\/span>:<\/b> Applications can be found at <\/span>www.tntech.edu\/graduatestudies\/financial<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n
  3. Student Email Account<\/span>: <\/span>Sign in<\/span><\/a>, it\u2019s the main method of contact by the university.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Advisement:<\/span> Contact the person listed on your Certificate of Admission.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Register:<\/span> Login to <\/span>Eagle online<\/span><\/a> and register for courses.<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Parking permit<\/span>: Get a <\/span>permit<\/span><\/a> if you will be parking on campus.<\/span><\/li>\n
  7. Complete Admission Requirements<\/span>: If you lack any requirements for admission, it will be indicated on your Certificate of Admission. All admission requirements must be meet by the end of the first semester or a registration hold will be placed on your account.<\/span><\/li>\n
  8. Advisory Committee<\/span>: Start thinking about which faculty members you want.<\/span><\/li>\n
  9. Forms:<\/span> Go to the Graduate Studies website and click on the <\/span>FORMS<\/span><\/a> link and familiarize yourself with the forms we have available.<\/span><\/li>\n
  10. International students:<\/span> Check in with the <\/span>International Education office<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Things to Be Aware of<\/span><\/i><\/h3>\n

    1. Permissible Loads:<\/span> There are limits in some situations.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Grades<\/span>: Know what grades are required to avoid dismissal or probation.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Program of Study and Admission to Candidacy forms<\/span>: You\u2019ll need to file one by the end of the semester in which you will earn 15 credit hours of graduate level courses. Failure to turn in your program of study by this time will result in a registration hold. <\/span><\/li>\n
    4. Admission to Candidacy<\/span>: Find out what the process is for your degree.<\/span><\/li>\n
    5. Changes<\/span>: Learn how to make changes and the proper forms to use.<\/span><\/li>\n
    6. Degree Completion Time Limits<\/span>: Six consecutive years to complete a master\u2019s or specialist in education; eight consecutive years to complete a doctorate. <\/span><\/li>\n
    7. Comprehensive Exam<\/span>: Learn about your department and degree\u2019s comprehensive exam (when, where, and how). <\/span><\/li>\n
    8. Thesis\/Dissertation<\/span>: TTU has a specific format for theses and dissertations. Attend a workshop before you begin writing.<\/span><\/li>\n
    9. Graduation<\/span>: You must apply for graduation in the semester you plan to complete your degree. All applications are due by the published deadline posted on our Graduate Student Calendar by semester.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
