Subrata Saha, M.S. mechanical engineering ’69, was the conference chairperson for the 7th International Conference on Ethical Issues in Biomedical Engineering in 2013, which hosted more than 150 industry professionals, students and philosophers. He is the founder of the conference series.
Saha serves as research professor and director of musculoskeletal research in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. He is also the director of the school’s Biomedical Engineering Program.
He has published more than 100 papers in journals, 45 book chapters and edited volumes, 382 papers in conference proceedings and 151 abstracts. His research interests are bone mechanics, biomaterials, orthopedic and dental implants, drug delivery systems, rehabilitation engineering, and bioethics.
He earned his doctoral degree in applied mechanics from Stanford University in 1974.
